Thanks for the comments guys. The bases were asked for by the guy I painted them for. He was also tired of all the snow bases. He just wanted simple bases that don't detract from the miniatures. I think it worked out pretty well, with the browns complimenting the blues.

littlehorus - I always place my decals and then paint over them. I brought some of the blue-grey over the yellow to simulate the paint scratching off. Same idea with bringing the yellow over the black. Then it was just a case of painting some Rhinox Hide in some of the scratches to make them deeper and using a sharp 3B pencil to get the metallic highlights. (thanks to my military modeller buds for that one).
