Hey there everyone, my name is Brendan, I'm new to this forum and have only just recently picked up the brushes again since a 10 year hiatus. I've entered 40k this time round to start off a small skirmish Space Wolves army, I'm as green horn as they come, so be easy on me lol. I know its complete heresy to embark on a different paint schemes when it comes to the space wolves but I thought of making my own chapter, The Timber Wolves, small skirmish army consisting of HQ, troop selections, transport and some terminators. I chose a bone/white scheme to emphasize battle worn and to keep them a bit lo key in the snow, adding brass to give a more Celtic feel. Fairly basic paint scheme, I will continue updating to show you the army selections. So far I have just spent 5 long weeks painting my 10 Grey Hunters, first time I've painted since I was 17 so its been a long time. Hope you enjoy my efforts and any feed back would be nice, just remember I'm a complete amateur and merely starting off.
I bought Fenrisian Wolves on Friday so I should have one or two up by next weekend. My paint scheme is completely original (I think) and I had to give one the dettol bath for 38 hrs as I wasn't happy with it originally, I'm basically just aiming for a battlefield spec army, not a whole lot of detail, so there a bit rough up close. Excuse my poor photography as well. Enjoy new friends

Nice work. I really like the creme and red colors working together.

I think the alternate space wolves schemes are almost always better than the original. Keep it up!

I like them so much more then the traditional space wolf colors you always see. What did you use for the crème color?

I must agree I think I like this scheme better than the original. I'd love to see a tutorial.

thanks heaps for the compliment, I wasn't sure how they would be received as I'm going against the grain a bit lol

but for your interest this scheme was fairly complicated and time consuming, but his a run down for you none the less.

spray whole model in scar white paint, wash entire model in Seraphim Sepia, once dried you then have to slowly build up Scar white as the base, avoiding recesses for shade and highlight. This is the longest part, takes about an hr for the whole model. Then wash Seraphim back over any recesses that you may put Scar white in, any darker areas lightly wash with Nuln Black. Its a super long process but i just wanted them to look ancient. I don't have any back story for my Timber Wolves, how they came to be, but there a border protector, i envisioned them as just a small skirmish army running low on resources and men. Hope that helped. If you want to know anything else more than happy to help

I did take some photos on my first one as the process unfolded, BUT, that was the one that received the dettol bath lol my parts for Wolf Lord should arrive this week, he will be painted similar to the grey hunters so I do a tutorial for him definitely. Painting the armor is the most time consuming of the whole model. Thankyou for your compliment, greatly appreciated

I really like the dudes with the black faces. painting 2 colors on the helmet was very original and you can consider this idea stolen

Thought I was going to start painting my Fenrisian Wolves next weekend, but I got pretty eager this afternoon. So here is 1/5. I attempted a different paint scheme for its fur, as I like the way black wolves look in real life. Hope you all enjoy. Thanks

These are so, so nice. At first glance, they look like mini-Deathwing!

Don't worry about using non-canon paint ... when it looks as good as this, it's earned some slack.

Have to admit, when I opened this thread I was hoping for some Legion of Super Heroes-themed Marines!

Heresy! Not a fan of this. When painting up a chapter try to at least keep within the fluff when dealing with sucessor chapters.

I guess warhammer stopped being the game of Cannon pitfalls and non - correlating plots and fluff...... Sarcasm

They look great, w.e backstory you decide to throw them that makes you happy is all that matters in the end, in a grim dark world of hello kitty armies things like this seem alot less heretical dont ya think

Thanks heaps! Yeah that's initially where the idea came from, I've been out've the loop for so long, googled heaps of paint schemes, walked into a GW shop and saw 5 death wings on the table, that semi inspired the theme. Appreciate it thankyou.

You said it! Thanks heaps, yeah there a work in progress. My painting skills will never match the GW idea of what a space wolf army 'could' look like. So I'll make my own, instead of comparing it to something else the whole time lol

Always loved space wolves alt-schemes. I prefer a dark grey myself, looks good with all of the red hair, but this... is very nice.

Remind me a little bit of pre heresy world eaters but red instead of blue, but very cool, and very well done

Thanks grim! Yeah I would've have attempted a dark grey or something but I'm pretty horrible at highlighting. Thought I'd mix it up. Thankyou for your feed back.

Very cool scheme and great job at painting it as well. Bravo.

Hey everyone, been a busy day trying to pump out my alternative scheme fenrisian wolves. I went with a black scheme, relating it to black timber wolf pictures as I painted and glowing yellow eyes. Pretty happy with the outcome im having a bit of a drama taking proper photos at the moment as I don't have a booth yet. So this was the best I could do. As I said earlier, just want an army that presents well on the table, not after any awards when it comes to my paining lol so there may be some rough areas. Hope you enjoy. Beginning to paint my wolf lord tonight with fenrisian wolf guard, which I will be painting a different colour to the other wolves. Cheers

Those look fantastic. They wash out a little in the dimmer lights (my army does it terribly, its annoying ), but those look really nice. I really like the subtle glow for the eyes.

If you like, you can probably have the mods move this thread to the P&M Blog forum. I understand if you like separation, but I did it with my painting and modeling thread when I decided I'd be updating regularly. Thread detailing moving old P&M threads, should probably apply to showcase threads being updated continually too

On another, less meddlesome, note; nice model I like the simple, effective power weapon. I'm not as much of a fan of his relaxed pose, but its growing on me. He probably isn't in a hurry 'cause he knows he's got it under control.
