Okay so I'm new to this painting tiny people with tiny brushes and I just thought I'd share my progress with my wood elves.

So far I only have some glade guard as they appear to be the best place to start.

So here's what I have for my first ever guy.

Obviously only covered the green parts so far, will be getting the leather this week hopefully

Just wondering if anyone has any hints, tips, advice?

I'll try to keep updating with what I get, I'll probably be able to get more done once I move back to uni so updates won't be too regular.

First off, welcome to DakkaDakka.

So far its looking good. Paint doesn't appear too thick. I personally wait on washes till I have all the colors down so that if a mistake happens I am only fixing one or two steps.

Keep at it and post more pics are you get em.

Yes these figures are taking me far too long to paint, but that's what you get when you only paint once or twice a week and are always watching Battlestar while doing it haha.

So all my glade guard are up to this stage now,

Just got to go into my local store to see if the manager can help me get the flesh and hair and bits and bobs woohoo

Anyone have any advice on elf flesh or hair that would be much appreciated!

Flesh isn't too hard, it is just takes a bit of getting used to.

You could do something like (keep in mind these are old paint names not the new GW range so you will have to convert them to the new range). It will produce a really generic skin tone but it is somewhere to start.

1. Tallarn Flesh basecoat
2. Wash with ogryn flesh
3. Relayer Tallarn flesh
4. Highlight with 50/50 mix of Tallarn:Elf flesh
5. Highlight with Elf flesh

As for hair, I always recommend this blonde hair tutorial here on dakka.

Thanks man, I did some flesh today at GW so I'll try to get a picture up soon, but I think it ended up a bit dark...
As for the hair that tutorial is wonderful thanks!

So almost finished!

Just got the bow and basing left to do now

A lot of things could be better about this,
I need to make the greens look more varied,
The leather needs tidying up,
The flesh needs making lighter...

But for a first attempt I'm feeling rather good!

Wow, this is your first attempt? Looking crisp!

I think the green and the leather look really good. Though I agree with you that the flesh could use some extra work. Also the hair. Looks too dirty for a pretty elf

Yeah I didn't have chance to re-highlight the hair after I'd put a wash over it so hopefully it'll look a lot fresher after! Saying that, I do think running around in the woods all day they'd probably be covered in dirt , might stick some leaves and branches in their hair

So this was an update I should have done around Christmas, spent a bit of time in GW and painted them all up to this stage bar the standard bearer and musician.

And this is my latest update. Not gonna lie I got bored of doing my dissertation and spent a day doing this instead :3

But yeah to say basing was the main thing I wasn't looking forward to they came out kinda well!
Still need some tidying up and finishing up but for now they'll do

Sorry for the long breaks in updating, final year of uni is a killer and takes up all my time, but this summer I will be dedicating way more time to miniatures.

I'm seriously impressed buddy

If these are your first ever models then i think you've got a natural talent for it and cant wait to see what you can paint up after a year of practice.

Awesome job , keep it up

Looking really good mate. I particularly like your colour choice of nice complimentary greens.

I've probably been painting nearly 2 now. but as you can tell I don't even have a years worth of work haha. Think I can see an improvement but I feel these guys are my forte, painting Space Wolves at the moment too and they're not going as well

I think it's mainly because I looked up everything I could online on painting before I attempted it, and I have a great GW manager who helps me
