So here are my ravenguard that I have been working on, all are based on the FW mk6 beaky kit... I have quite a way to o yet to get them all painted but I wondered what you guys think? The captain pic is from a game I had against my mate Jamie, believe it or not I put 2 wounds on the yellow beast before he got smushed!... He then went on and took out a wraith knight and avatar....

The black is done through an airbrush

I prime chaos black spray

First coat is Vallejo air black 8drops, Vallejo air dark blue 2 drops, 10 drops of thinner

2nd coat, 6 black, 4 blue, 10 thinner

3rd coat, 4 black, 6 blue, 10 thinner

4th coat 2 black, 8 blue,10 thinner

Each layer gets progressively higher above the model with less spraying time to prevent the colour building up to much. This way with the thinners it builds a natural variation in the colour and more of a sheen rather than a highlight to look more natural (as natural as an 8 ft bloke in power armour can...)

The aim was to create the look a raven/crow has on its wings and to avoid the extreme highlighting that any stealthy operative would spend hours dulling down... ;-)

After I finished the base coat I did a recess wash with Vallejo earth to make the model pop and create depth. I mixed the paint 1 part paint to roughly 10 parts water and added a drop of gloss varnish to enhance the flow. If the paint looks like weak tea your there!

I then weathered further with tamiya weathering compounds

Great army. Commiting to finding mk6 helms/armor is quite a feat. I really like the work done to make black more than just black. Adding a cool tone adds depth, and your justification of stealthers not wanting shiny armor is well thought out and executed. This is the type of work required to bring more attention to this first founding chapter Sure, many people play them, but not enough have pushed the pallette beyond primer black and white. Keep'em comin' and keep'em fast.
