Subject: trying to find out what colors to use.....

hey im trying to see what colors i may need for a new chapter for space marines called The GameKeepers. they are a chess related army, but the color scheme is different. The chess part will be more so with the ranks that i will give them and the symbols that they represent. I was hoping that the community could help me with the colors i need from an illustration of what i want them too look like (somewhat). it is in the attachment, and i hope to make some minor modifications to it. All i really need is your ideas on what colors are used so i may start this army and hopefully post my progress here.
thank you and tell me if the attachment didn't work.

Why not just do a quartered or halved black and white scheme?
Should suit the chess thing well.

Basically looks like a combination of a dark grey or black, with white or a shiny metallic

I think it is a cool looking color scheme, but could also work with a quarter scheme as well.

are we talking paint names here? If that's what you want I can give you a few citadel paint suggestions....
Firstly (and obviously) get some black undercoat spray. This will basically remove the need to paint the black, and you can't use white spray because it would be a horror to paint the black parts over it.
for the white basecoat in Ulthuan Grey (or similar light grey). Read this in an old White Dwarf about White Scars - doing this will allow you to highlight the white later. For the actual white get some White Scar
If you want to highlight the black later get a dark grey like Eshin Grey or Dawnstone.
hope this helped!

Looks like black and silver body with a white helmet in the picture! I'm not sure how it would look but sounds like an interesting colour combo.

You are all very helpful. I like the quarter scheme, but would much rather the image. the body is a sort of metallic color, so please give me your opinion of if it should stay the metallic color or change it to white. Also i would like some paint names to go along with your answer
thank you for your replies

Personally I would go for white, but it's your scheme, and frankly either way it's still a great looking colour idea!
If you plan to use metallic, then I would use a Leadbelcher basecoat followed by either Ironbreaker or Runefang Steel (whichever takes your fancy). Also, of you want to go an extra step further, then use Necron Compound after you have finished the layering to highlight all the edges.
If you feel like sticking to white though, then you can use the previous advice I posted. That will work a treat . But be sure to send us pictures of the models once you've painted them!

Thank you very much. i will be sure to post some pictures of them and i am going for the metallic color. to get the details on the metallic part, the best thing i think to use is nulen oil. but what should i use for the blue eyes on the helmet?

oooh eyes... eyes are a tough job. But if you want to have a go do a Macragge or Alaitoc Blue base, followed by a very thin line of Calgar Blue on one part of the rim - about a third of the rim (does that make sense?). then to top off put a tiny dot of white scar on the edge of the eye. That way it looks like the eyes are glinting in the light of the 41st millennium
it's a classic GW paint technique - look at pictures of space marine eyes and you will get what I mean
PS - Nuln Oil is great for metal stuff and the like. However, if you want to only have it in the recesses, then be sure to go over again in the colour underneath the wash. That way you keep the original colour, but the recesses of the model look crisp, detailed and realistic
I'm begining to sound like a GW employee - think I need to go to bed
Have fun painting!

Could you do a test mini in the white and black scheme, and then a test mini in the black, silver and white head scheme. Then you can decide or get more opinions from dakka?
The colours suggested by those above are all good too!

I might do this if i cannot decide later on. I could even do this for like the shoulder pads just to implement the scheme into it....
