I want to do my first steps with Eldar forces using the Iyanden Supplement. Since I've so far only gathered some experience playing CSM, Eldar are quite alien to me.
My games are just in the local club for fun. Should a list be too nasty, I'd tone it down after testing. What I came up with is this:

2 HQ
Wraithknight, Suncannon and Shield, 1 x Scatterlaser (300) Warlord for the Iyanden buff Warlord table
Spiritseers (205)
+ Wraithseer, Shurikenpistol, [Iyanden] The Wraithforge Stone, [Iyanden] The Celestial Lance (135) Healing Wraithknight
+ Wraithseer, Shurikenpistol, Seherstab (70) hangs with Scythe Wraith

4 Troops
6 Wraithguards + Serpent, sync. Scatterlaser, Shurikencannon (130) (322)
5 Wraithguards, Warpscythes + Serpent, sync. Scatterlaser, Shurikencannon (130) (340)
6 Wraithguards, Ghostaxe and Shield + Serpent, sync. Scatterlaser, Shurikencannon (130) (322)
10 Guards, 1 x Laserlanze (110)

Heavy Support
Warp Hunter, Shuriken cannon, Spirit stones (145)

Total 1744

Between the warp hunter, the knight with big cannon and the 3 serpents, there should be plenty of dakka. I have no idea how strong the wraithguards are in either offense or defense, but I'm hoping they hold their own. One Wraithseer is supposed to go with the Scythe Wraith, to be sure they can run and fire.

So now my questions:

1) Does this PDF show the current Warp Hunter rules and if does. does blast refer to the 5" template and which template is meant with the Aether Rift? I've got a feeling that this isn't the latest version, I got the model from another player locally, I'm not sure where in the forgeworld offering/books I'd find the rules for this tank. Pointers or confirmation would be grand! =]

2) Should the Wraithknight be supported by a wraithseer? Standing in the back with the big cannon, the seer could hang out in cover next to the knight, but if the knight moves, the seer has no way to keep up. I don't see the option to grab a bike for them. Is the Wraithforge stone (heal 1 point on a wraithknight or wraithlord on 3+ within 6") good?

3) Troops. Should I replace the guards with something else? With the short ranges of their weapons, my feeling is that the wraithguards/blades need the serpent's to taxi them in, so I'm reluctant to make one of the units walk and of course the serpent is a very nice light tank.

4) Anything else wrong with the list? ;-]

I got a bunch of old metal models to swap in as needed. Some khaindar, fire dragons, banshees, hawks, rangers, avengers, plus a bunch of regulars. The list above also leaves me with another serpent, an ilum zar, 6 bikes, 1 viper, 3 wraith lords and 3 war walkers on the bench.

I'd be grateful for any advice and critique you guys can offer! =]

The Twilight Zone

1. That is an old ruleset, unfortunately. The warp hunter took a serious nerf. I can't find a nice pretty version of the hunter, but the blast is small, the template for the rift is the flamer template, and the S is 7, ap 3 with distort(both modes)

2. Obviously you want your stone close, and double points if you have destructor/renewer. Easiest way is to use a wave serpent to follow em around and have the seer work this way. Not the best place to put the lance if you want your spiritseer to camp and heal. Good to hide with the scytheguard or whatever, it does lock up the Wraithguard in the serpent for a while too.

3. Wraithguard are fantastic troops, and mesh well with serpents. Remember that spiritseers have spirit mark, which does not work with scythes, but does with cannons(still works in assault) Your 10 guardians on foot are a very easy target, even concealed by a spiritseer.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Thank you!

Ok, I'll leave the warp hunter aside for now then. Ditching that and the guardsmen lets me pick up another group of wraithguards with a serpent. I played with the idea of having a bunch of firedragons instead, but I'll leave that to try for another time.

Wraithknight, Suncannon and Shield, 1 x Scatterlaser (300) Warlord for the Iyanden buff Warlord table
Spiritseers (240)

Does that look better?

Regarding point (2), serpents do not allow passengers to shoot out. However, am I right in reading the descriptions for the Iyanden Spiritseer Primaris power and the Wraithforge Stone to the effect that they do have range requirements of 12" and 6" respectively, but don't state a LoS requirement. That is pretty clear in the primaris power (all friendly, eligible units withing 12"). For the wraithforge stone it states 'nominates a single wraithlord or wraithknight', not point at, target or wave at. Can a wraithseer use both the primaris power and the wraithforge stone without getting out of the serpent?
Also, how are distances measured with a psyker in a vehicle? I played against an ork player who told me they are measured from the vehicle body, but I couldn't find a reference for that in the rulebook.

Ok, so there is a thread where the wraithforge stone has been discussed. There isn't any clear counter-argument or reference why using it from within a serpent wouldn't work. That may be mostly because this is an artifact that is used kinda like a power, but isn't really a power and therefore less entwined with the RB. The thread does offer a reference to measuing from the hull that I missed before. RBp78, at the end states clearly that measuring anything from the unit in the transport is measured from the hull. That's important here since it effectively makes it possible to park the serpent next to the knight and be in range, rather than hump the knight's leg. ;-]

The primaris power should also be ok. The psyker & transport stuff seems to be mostly about shooting, buffing or debuffing units outside the transport through fireports. Since the Iyanden primaris power targets all wraith units within 12" it doesn't require an explicit target and isn't bothered by the hull. The way I read it, you could cast this even without wraith around the spirit seer - to no effect except warp perils risk, but that illustrates the irrelevance of the target.

What about spirit mark? The rule states "nominate an enemy unit within 12 inches". While the RAW is just like the spirit stone, from my belly I'd expect arguments if you'd try to use it from inside the serpent. How have you guys been playing it?
