In the Trenchs

So with the new codex out and the new doctrines system what chapter tactics are appealing to you and why?

A reminder of the doctrines:

White scars:
Born in the saddle: auto pass dangerous terrain tests on a bike, +1 jink, +1S on hammer of wrath

Fight on the move: all models (except termies, centurions) have hit and run.

Imperial fists:
Bolter drill - rerolls all 1s with bolter weapons, does not apply to special ammo

Siege masters - dev squads and dev centurions have tank hunter and add +1 to building pen table.

Black Templars:
accept any challenge: characters in challenges re roll hits and have rending

crusaders: all models have crusader and adamantium will, and can use crusader squads

Iron hands
the flesh is weak: 6+ feel no pain

machine empathy: all vehicles have 'it will not die' and all techmarines and masters of the forge add +1 to blessings of the omnissiah

Salamanders:
Flamecraft: rerolls saves against flamer weapons, and reroll wounds and armour pen with flamers

master artisans: characters can master 1 weapon for free

Ravenguard:
Strike from the shadows -All models have scout, and non bulky and very bulky models have stealth on turn 1. Models with bulky and very bulky special rules do not get scout or 1st turn stealth

wing deliverance - Jump infantry can use their packs for both movement and assault and reroll wounds for hammer of wrath

Personally Im split between Iron hands and raven guard

I love the idea of all scouts but 6+ feel no pain is hard to resist.

I like the imperial fists doctrine. It makes a squad of marines that much more dangerous against infantry and gives your big boys a better chance against armor. What's not to love?

Main detachment will either be BT or IFs. Secondary detachment will be whichever isn't the primary. Sons of Dorn only for this player.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Yeah I like them two Imp Fists are my third choice, in fact all of them are good, but to be honest the Ultramarines one seems slightly unfair I mean everyone else gets an all game bonus but the surfs get 3 1 turn buffs? me and my friend are both starting new space marine armies for the codex, you should have seen his face when I told him that he only got to use the buffs for 1 turn a game, it put him right off his howling griffins, shame I like those guys, so now he is collecting Sons of Dorn. I personally don't like the Smurfs but I think its a little unfair.

You missed the sentence from Strike from the Shadows that says, "Note that units that include models with the Bulky or Very Bulky special rules DO NOT BENEFIT FROM EITHER RULE." Raven Guard detachment Bulky and Very Bulky units don't get scout or 1st turn stealth.

A ton of armies and a terrain habit...

I've got a large Crimson Fist army, so I'll be using the standard IF traits.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

I've been collecting White Scars for 9 years now and I'll go on doing that. I might also start some sort of Iron Hands successor chapter.

The Ultramarines CTs are powerful, but the once per turn thing really seems to be an unfair way to balance it, especially since some games can be longer than 4 turns.

What everyone was crying about in the early phases of the rumors thread seems to now be rather unimpressive. The internal balance on these CTs is fairly wonky.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Ravenguard while slowly working towards Ultramarines unless a more entertaining supplement arrives (I *love* special characters)
Some day I might even take White Scars when I get 20-30 more bikes.

Iron Hands, I still run lots of Dreads and Predators, and army wide 6+ FNP is going to be awesome. Successor chapter though, and it fits perfectly with my chapters fluff.

OP, why don't you turn this into a poll? Then we can have a breed grasp of what CTs are popular among the Dakka community.

Ultramarines. It's my army, so I'll use the CT.

I may end up painting a second company, so I can ally in another force, but that's down the road.

Recheck p78. The UM CT are once per game for each of the three options.

If the mood ever strikes me, I will play whitescars. Hit and run is just awesome... plus that extra jink rule? That's sweet.
