Just got an Assault Squad and I'm going to be putting a lot of time into it. Since the color scheme will be slightly different from the normal Blood Angels scheme I'm going to be calling it the 12th Company (Why? Because 12 is a great number that's why!) and I'd like to know what the good people of dakkadakka think of it!

Note: I'm also working on Daemons and Tyranids so I might not update as much as I'd like.

Finished the skull emblems and the wings on the chest. Also finished the shield, I used bleached bone for the parchment and mechrite red for the stamps.

I kept my promise about the camera. I took a lot of pictures to make up for the crappy quality before. This is Sgt. Johnson. He isn't invincible (like his namesake Sgt. Avery Johnson from the Halo series) but he does have a 6++ and a power sword!

A few different things could be done here: Red on red purity seals are a no-no... Make them purple to stand out from the red, and put some little back squiggles on the text ^_^ Also lens colours, even a flat colour is better than leaving them black, or you could even do spots of white on them to show they're tinted if you can't keep your hand steady. I also can't help but notice on his Jump Pack harness, there's a spot of white from the Eagle on his chest that has been transferred onto it, sort it out and he'll look like a proper good model mate. Also, wash the whole model in Nuln Oil (especially the metal at the back of the Jump Pack)

Oh wow didn't notice the harness there, thanks for pointing it out! Also, the purity seals are purple but I'll redo them, they turned out too dark for sure. What would you recommend for a lens color? I don't have any blue sadly so I have to use purple for the power sword, I was gonna do that earlier but I had to finish gluing all 20 of my gargoyles. It took forever because of their stupid arms! Anyways, thanks for the feedback, and do you think light blue eyes/power weapons would work for this color scheme? I have nothing else it would be used for so I don't want to risk it looking bad.

If I were you I'd use a single spot colour throughout your army. If I were you, I'd do:
Lighter purple purity seals
Green lenses (BLOHD REHVENS!)
Purple or green power weapons, and then that will be your spot colour. What spot colours do is they break up all the blocks of colour, and stop your models looking bland. Any tiny little details like purity seals should be done in your spot colour

Hmm yeah I'll do purple as the spot color then, and I'll be going back later to put on the decals and the writing on the purity seals.

I've got a new thread for the Dread Codex rules =3

I did some more work on Johnson to fix up the purity seals and eyes (and some things BrotherOfBone pointed out to me). I also started working on the other mehreens, I glued together the torsos and the jump packs (they're separated still though).

Bought a box of 3rd-ish edition stuff from my IG friend today for $45. It had a bunch of DEldar in it with some CSM and SM too. I got a Deathwing Terminator w/Heavy Flamer, a Captain (I think?), a Techmarine or Apothecary, something I can't really say for sure, a Terminator Chaplain, and a Dreadnought! So this is definitely going to help out my army, getting me an HQ (or two?), a troop choice, and an elite choice (two once I get a Terminator squad). It also had two sets of Furioso banners and a banner for Blood Angels. I'm gonna have to repaint these which is going to take forever because they're ALL FETHING METAL at least most of them are already put together so I don't have to deal with that.

You might want to strip them down with nail varnish or something, and base them with a can of black spray, because painting a base onto them will be a right ballache.. And, yes, the guy with the power sword is a captain, and the guy in white is an Apothecary for a Command Squad (kind of annoying considering you don't have one...). Also, your purity seals look good mate, liking the purple

Apparently the guy on the left is a Sgt. for a tactical squad I mean he's Captain Tycho! And the Apothecary is now Brother Corbulo. Also, I'm gonna get a can of mephiston red spray base soon which will make painting my 90 models way easier!

xD You could probs pull off the Apothecary, but I dunno about the Captain.. BA Captains are pretty good anyway, and tbh the model for Tycho looks dumb. All you need for your Captain to become Tycho is to swap his Power Sword out for a combi-melta.. Dunno how you'll achieve that though

He is missing an arm. Haha I'm about to buy a bunch more BA too XD I need to stop, I'm not even halfway done with my assault mehreens! But I could really use 10 terminators and another 12 Assault Marines.

And I could totally pull off Tycho! I would use the sergeant model though because I can't use it otherwise. Hopefully I'll find a combi-melta, I think my friend has one. Otherwise I can just use a Reclusiarch.

Like I said, strip them off with some nail varnish or something, it'd take the original layer right off and help give you a nice start over on it

I'm seeing how well I can paint over the Captain first.

The product red from painting over the Captain (two layers of red on the blue) seems to look good enough and the Captain won't be my main HQ (I'll be using a Reclusiarch in terminator armor or Mephiston at this point.)

Mephiston is an awesome HQ, mate, probably one of the only ones worth having. The Reculsiarch you want to team up with a squad of Death Company, but it sucks that he's in Termy armour, so I'd use him as a regular Chaplain. The best thing about Mephy is he's a Librarian with the statline of a bloody Monstrous Creature, he's just generally great!

He's also one of the only SMs ever to resist the Black Rage entirely. I think his fluff is great and it doesn't go overboard like Calgar. I have just enough money left to get Mephiston and after this I'll be getting a Stormraven and MOAR ASSAULT MEHREENS you can never have enough assault marines and they're ubercheap on ebay! I love when an army is hit hard and everybody sells their collection instead of changing tactics.

More assault marines mate, you need big squads of assault marines to make them work, and no army can function without a good, solid core of troop choices, I'd also recommend getting some Devestators (prob with Missile Launchers or Lascannons) because you're seriously lacking long range/tank sniping capability, and also probably a squad of scout snipers to hold the home objective

I just did the purity seals and I'm about to start on the other accessories for Sgt. Johnson but I think the purity seals look okay, the one I put on the shield got screwed up but I couldn't fix it without starting over and it already glued on and painted but it's not too bad. Here take a look:

He could do with an allover wash of Nuln Oil to add a bit of depth to him, and on his left eye lens he's got a tiny bit of pink/purple on the top of the helmet. Also, white spot your lenses mate, it adds so much more to the model when you do If you follow the steps, you should end up with a pretty awesome model, that's easy to reproduce

It has allover nuln oil, the flash was on and apparently flashes negate washes.

I just put on the BA and 12th Company decals for the Sgt. The BA winged blood symbol was particularly annoying because I forgot to cut part out before I applied it and I ended up breaking it in half which more or less worked, I'll be adding pictures in a bit but I'm not near the BA right now.

I'll try not to mess up on the next few, but I don't think it ended up too bad.

I'm going to be merging this thread with my Tyranid P&M blog because I'm not working on that one enough to justify it having its own thread anymore.

I don't have my Tyranids with me ATM they are at a friends for a game vs. Eldar but I do have some progress to show for Bloodletters and Blood Angels and soon I will do something with the Wraithlord and War Walker I have, they're both metal and I'll have to recut parts of the Wraithlord so it doesn't look slowed and you'll understand why I'm saying that in the next update.
