Got a box of Fire Warriors and want an urban scheme. Wanted some opinions before I start cranking out the other 7.

Any improvements \ advice is most welcome. Will post a pic of the color scheme for the Fire Warriors too.

Thanks for your time!

Saw the first pic and wasn't impressed, but then saw the second pic and realised you were going for a rough bitumen/tar-seal look - which looks great with the road markings. In fact, so long as you include road markings, you need very little rubble/debris as well on the bases.

My only thought is that you've used quite coarse sand - I have seen real world bitumen/tar-seal that coarse, but a finer sand might give a more typical look.

And the Tau colour scheme is great, but avoid the exact same greys as the bases or the Tau will 'disappear' - unless you're going for a full camo look.

Thanks. I work with a paving crew sometimes.(Medic) I was really going for the look. The first picture dosent show it but I used liquid green stuff so "chip-seal" it.

I used the finest sand I had. I will see if I can find a less course grade. Every few bases I want to do something a bit different as well. Ive got sime cork I wanted to try. Ive seen a few tuts on its many uses. Also wanted to do a pothole or heavily cracked asphalt.

I kinda want them to blend a little but will add a cool color into the mix. Perhaps a little space wolf gray.

Sealing with watered down white glue is much cheaper

The advantage of a city - war-torn or not - is that you have lots of different ground surfaces, so sand consistency isn't too much of an issue.

Looking pretty good. Can't really comment with any useful advice; I suck at basing. But it's looking good nevertheless.

Ill have to give watered glue a try. I bought the liquid greenstuff to fill seams but it dosent work all that well for it. Though in mass glue would bemuch easier. Thanks for the tip!

I appreciate the complenents. I want to do the next 5 with some metal grating or stormdrain. I will post one if I can greenstuff something worthy.

Quick question. Fluff wise do imperial cities kind of mirror our own street markings and structures?

With some ideas from the community Ill try anything!

Thanks again.

Really simple yet effective, I may have to steal this idea for my DV cultists as I see them in a Fallout / Madmax type world.

I like em.

One note, if you are looking for more bases similar to this for more inspiration and reference, this particular style is sometimes called "urban rubble" or "trash" (with all the debris).

You will see a lot of color variations there.

If I were to do my tau again, I would do urban. very cool.

Best of luck, and thanks for sharing!

I think it would depend on each city's history. An ex-colony would have imported all its street marking standards (along with all its road building technology) when created. But an ex-'native' city might retain very different street marking logic (and might not even pave its roads with anything we'd recognise). I would expect that any planetary capitals and/or admin/military centres would have very standard street markings, for the benefit of its interstellar citizens who expect and demand that all roads should look the same.

I've never seen any official fluff re 40K street markings. If modelling a city, I reckon the only thing to avoid is copying real-world stuff. E.g. an imperial city may well have 'No Parking' signs, but they won't look just like the ones on your local street corner.

Awesome. Thank you Clang. I just got a whole bunch of ideas.

Was thinking of some larger walla for eventual Riptides that have Beware Xenos posters and Imperial iconography. Maybe making some cement style tile bases.

Was thinking for pathfinders to try somehow to make and urban park in an unkempt and rubble like state. (Think central park after lots of war)

Adding some foliage and stuff to unify the force but show variety.

Ill keep posting pics too for help and thoughts.

Im also stuck i what color to paint the rim of the bases...

Wip shots of first tau in urban colors.
How does it look so far?
Any suggestions welcome.

Also...what color are tau hooves? Cant find any color pictures to determine if they are like horse hooves or like camel feet.

Thanks for looking

The rocks could use some stippled/drybrushed light gray to simulate concrete dust around the pieces. If you do it with a very dry brush, you get sort of dusty feel to it. This would enhance the idea that they've bits of buildings fallen on asphalt.

Thanks prowla. I dusted them a bit more before I left for work. Once I get this first Tau done I will do a photo box picture.

Cheers and thanks again

Nice bases!

Funnily enough, I have similar Tau colors as you, but I put some turquoise on mine

Nice Lucarix. I was thinking of adding some color on the larger models to break up some of the gray.

When I started I was torn between Ice, Desert, or Urban themes.

Is your whole force ice theme?

They look nice with that blue!
