Couple of questions about them:

A) I've noted that in Nick Kyme's 'Tome of Fire' Salamanders novel series, there are repeated mentions of the Badab War markings being hazard markings on the left kneepad - despite the novel being set after the Badab War. However, I can find no mention of this marking in IA10 (Parts One and Two). So, in the absence of info from IA10 (The definitive source for the Badab War) can I assume that Nick Kyme's markings are canonically correct?

B) Are campaign markings only temporary for the duration of the campaign and then removed or are they more of a personal thing, whereby Space Marines individually choose to keep or discard the markings by way honouring a victorious or possibly a particularly bloody campaign?

Any help would be most appreciated

This is mentioned in the new codex, but yes and no. Typically, campaign markings are temporary but if the campaign/battle is important enough to the chapter, they will keep the the markings as a sign of honor or remembrance.

So I guess that Mr Kyme is right in that the Badab War Veterans keep their left kneepad painted with the campaign marking as a sign of respect. Cheers for the info.

I know that the BT have an emblem for each crusade they've been on, usually in the shape of a white shield with a red strip somewhere.
