I would usually ask for advice one I've completely finished the model, but since golden daemon UK is in 6 days, I was wondering if any of you experienced painters could offer me any suggestions or hints to making this model perfect, as although I see little chance of even bronze, a finalist pin would be great too.

The first thing that jumps out to me are the highlights, the blends are pretty smooth but then the very edges seem rough and sloppy comparatively. Also, the horns on the shoulder could be brought out more, they look like you've barely touched them. Not sure if that's the case or not.
edit; I'm talking about the cut up the middle of the foot, the inside edge of the pauldron, and the arm band.

Basing. A well done base can make a model place that normally wouldn't. You have to consider 100% of everything associated with it

@boltgun, the model isn't finished, so the horns haven't been painted at all :p
The edge highlight I agree, but the foot was really annoying me before since I only of started the pant pot stand midway through, and the edge highlight on the foot rubbed off three times -_-. I'll correct it though and update the picture in the first post.
@namiel, I know he needs a good base, I was thinking rocks, grass, and a decapitated corpse beneath his axe.

metal wouldn't go blue AND rust when it corrodes, you understand.

I've seen it on others, and even if it doesn't work by science, I think it works visually.

Yeah, but if you wanted to do a realistic contrast you could just have [cold] iron and [warm] orangey-rust.

I think those blue parts actually represent patina.

So you're saying the great Nurgle CANT make something corrode blue and rust at the same time? pfffft no faith in some people.
'Realism' gets taken too far sometimes.. this is 40k afterall. Theres a certain degree of creative license available here without being unbelievable for its setting.
The model is lookin awesome! Much better than I could do
Afraid I can't offer much in the way of tips.

I only think patina appears on bronze....

Guys, I don't want to argue the oxidisation of metal on here really, I'm sticking with blue and orange cause Nurgle can rust however he likes :p
Still trying to get ideas for the base, although I have a rough idea currently. Does anyone know if it's allowed to use any non GW things on the model?
So far this is the base, I plan to have a swamp on each side of him, a bit stuck here on the how.

Tread carefully if you want yo use non- GW stuff; it is any easy way to get disqualified. Don't use anything made by Scibor or Chapterhouse especially.
This appears to be your first go at GD, you definitely picked the hardest category.

Thanks, useful articles but more useful for next year than this one since I've made a few unwise choices.
About the base, if GW discontinue water effects how do they expect people to do water on bases?

You probably should have specified what you meant by "non- GW stuff." Using water effects, flock, or modeling ballast is not the same as using third party bits (Scibor, Chapterhouse, etc.) or pre-made scenery (Battlefield in a Box, etc.). Using the former is how you would scratch build a scenic display or diorama, but you can't made a base and stick some Scibor resin bits on it.
