Let's talk about the various upgrades. I'm not going to do a run down of every single card, but will mention some MVP and some thoughts on various cards that I'm interested in.

Worf- Disable to reroll entire attack roll. He operates much like Han Solo in X-wing. If he didn't need to disable, I think he'd be too good. As it is, Worf is insurance against a particularly bad photon torpedo roll. If you're packing heat, think about purchasing Worf Insurance.

Geordi LaForge- Anyone else think that this card is overcosted? He makes scans better, but... SPOCK!

Data- I would expect Data to be better than this. He's just two evasions -2 attacks. Sulu is superior.

Photon Torpedoes- Various- I think they are pretty badass the bigger they get. The smaller ones aren't really worth the points.

Klag etc.,- These cards are not particularly good and are very situational.

Tractor Beam- I really like the tractor beam but don't understand why it's not Federation tech. It works great against cloaked ships. If you're consistently playing against a romulan/klingon opponent, get yourself a tractor beam.

Advanced Weapon System- YOU HAVE TO RE-ENABLE IT NEXT TURN. This is not a good way to spend 5 points.

Counter Attack- Only triggers once per round! Remember this when someone wants to pull shenanigans on you. I like this card. The bigger the attack, the more valuable this card becomes. If I were inclined to put Picard on a Warbird, AND I AM, I'd also be inclined to give him Counter Attack.

I Stab at Thee- Pretty good, and a nice way to make the opponent make wrong decisions.

Superior Intellect- Have you played against this card? It's SO deflating to get hit with this thing. It's a bit overkill though.

Chekov- I saw a bunch of people that were impressed by this card. I'm not really. Too situational, and I'm not really getting into auxilliary power all that often.

Joachim- A well designed card that goes great with Khan. The two make a formidable presence and can really affect a game.

Cheat Death- I think this is best on Kirk, as one of the facedown cards (it's clearly designed to be used this way). A great card that comes out of nowhere (or will in a few months when there are more things to put facedown on Kirk)

Sulu- If he wasn't unique, he'd be on every ship. He's the best upgrade in the game imho. He makes your Enterprise D sooooo much more surviveable. Incredible card, really undercosted.

Spock- Another great card because it doesn't take an action AND gives you a free (kinda) battle stations (Kinda).

Uhura- My question is, can you try out templates when using her? If not, she's still a quirky card to use that'll get you out of a tight situation.

Scott- You'd expect Scott to be better than this. He's not very good, takes an action, and is probably a point too expensive.

Continuing on!

Tactical Officer- extra reroll with a target lock. On paper, this is great insurance, although I wonder whether points would be better spent elsewhere. Rerolls of Rerolls of 3-5 die is not particularly impressive in practicality. Sure, you're going to love this card when you whif on two attacks, but most of the time you won't, and this will likely net you 1ish rerolls. Some will swear by it, some will dedicate those 3 points to other options.

Plasma Torpedoes- range 1-2 weapons have to do something else besides just be a large attack. This is a 5 pt upgrade. You're already getting 4 attack dice at range 1 on a warbird and if you have the Khazara, are getting the +1 attack when cloaked anyway. At range 2, sure, this is a decent upgrade, but that's a pretty situational range band. I think romulan photon torpedoes are a better upgrade overall.

Varel- at first glance, this is not very good. 5 pts to cancel an attack. However, on the Apnex, which is a one trick pony to begin with, survival is key. You want it to get to the most advantageous position. Varel may not be a bad upgrade after all.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'm going to skip the Klingon expansion stuff. If someone else wants to give a rundown, feel free. There isn't a lot there to like to begin with.

Gilnn Telle- will soon be severely outclassed by Defiant Worf

Forward Weapons Grid- You can divide your 5 attack amongst two targets. I don't like it and probably wouldn't ever run it. I'm never wishing that I could hit a ship with two dice instead of five.

Antiproton Scan- It's a super scan! Not bad against cloaked ships.

EM Pulse- Not bad. Takes up your action and may not even be as good as a scan depending on the situation.

Breen Aide- I like the Breen Aide. It's 2 pts for a pretty novel ability across the cards. The Dominion ships dont have battlestations yet, but the breen aide is like Spock's much less impressive 2nd cousin. If you want a Spock like ability, but don't want to pay Spock like prices, this is your card.

Energy Dissipator- Did everyone buy the Gor Portas, look at this card and go- WHOA! Did everyone put this on their Gor Portas? Did everyone get their Gor Portas shot down every game without being able to use it? Oh right, because the Energy Dissipator is a huge fire magnet. If you're going to Breen it up, do me a favour and bring three Breen Battle Cruisers, each packing one of these, an aide and some other upgrades. You'll get to use your Energy Dissipator! Otherwise, it's just going to get your Gor Portas shot down first. If you can get this thing off, congratulations, you're probably winning the game. Also, why would you use anything but your phaser banks in the re-attack situation? You're already at range 1 and get the +1 attack die! This is my general problem with the Gor Portas- I want to throw extra weapons on it, but none of them are novel enough to warrant inclusion. For example- You use your attack to use your Energy Dissipator. You also have Photon Torpedoes. You have a perpetual target lock, but your Energy Dissipator doesn't hit because it's only 3 dice and that's not that great. You're left with unusable Photon Torpedoes AND you can't use your 4 dice phasers. Hopefully the dominion gets some serious weapons in the next few releases so that they can equip the Portas properly.

Take a look at the Defiant upgrades if you can. Take a look at those quantum torpedoes and cloak? Doesn't the Defiant seem ridiculously good? It has the Chewbacca power, plus 6 defense dice, and rerolls up the wazoo with Sisko. Granted, you're going to pay 15ish points for those upgrades on a 24pt hull, but it's a pretty tough little ship.
