Since I promoted myself after finishing my Tac. Squad Raphael (see http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/553641.page if you're interested) I finished my first bike from the DV.
Well... It took me about 5h in total and I'm not... unhappy with the result. Although not too happy either.
And since you folks are tremendously helpful I present my work so I can improve on the next 2 bikes.

I need to seriously work on my edge highlighting (first real try doing that). I have serious, SERIOUS problems getting a fine, straight line... Even with much correction the lines are pretty spotty. I got myself a good brush (W&N Series 7 size 00) so it's not that
The Shading of the wings didn't always work out as I had hoped (seen from the front the right one) and I have no clue why that is :(
Other than that gthe other highlighte give me the most trouble. The red on the bolters is basically invisible (evil sunz on mephiston red), Ironbreaker on Leadbelcher is hard to disttinguish...
I didnt even really try highlighting the tires... One recess and I covered it in black again., So bad...

Base isn't done yet since I want to experiment with that a bit (cork as stone) instead of covering it in grass again.

Thats a fine start

You mentioned about struggling to get a fine line, this is something that does come with practise, but its not 100% about brush control as you might expect.
Try thinning your paint a touch, to do this, put a dab of paint on a pallette, and use the brush to put a spot of water next to it (maybe approx as much water as you have paint; different paints want different amounts so practise and judge it), then dry the brush off a little before mixing them (or your adding lots more water lol) - use an unimportant brush to mix and move from pot to pallette to save the quality ones some stress.

Then when you load the brush with paint, remove most of it onto the paper towel so that the paint flows just nicely out of the bristles without flooding.
And finally do the edge highlight using the side of the brush where possible It will probably need a couple of coats this way, but thats fine, and it allows you to have it brighter in areas for a blended highlight.

Oh well.. I feared several coats to be necessary. But I see the unthinned paint is too thick to easily flow and not clot...
More coats mean more opportunities to feth it up tho.
More cleanup duty afterwards...
Should be able to begin on the 2nd bike (sergeant is last) this weekend.

I got around to basecoat my 2nd bike. I'm quite satisfied with my current lvl of precision. Taking a break right now, in the hopes of not fething it up as bad as the one before.

Looks good so far.

Breaks are always a good idea, either with a different project, or modeling all together.

Best of luck!
