I have finally assembled my force of spireguard cultists to accompany my Thousand Sons space marines...

I have 36 in total but will be running them as a blob of 35 probably in most of my lists since that is one of the most effective ways to run cultists. I have two flamers and one heavy stubber in the squad. I have seen a few examples of beautifully painted Prospero Spireguard pre-heresy armies and I am tempted to emulate the red painting scheme they have used for them, since that is how they were supposed to look.

These days though I am not sure how many Prospero Spireguard still exist and since time in the Eye of Terror is subjective, how ragged or different they will look? I like to assume that their Sorcerer overlords take reasonable good care of them (except when throwing them at enemies as cannon fodder), so... will they still have their red uniforms, or would they have adopted the blue colour scheme of their Marines colleagues? Perhaps something else entirely different?

I have not bought ANY paints yet and I want to optimize how much I spend on paints, since I am a beginner but I will be trying my best to do a very good job on my first attempt.

So...
1) Which colour scheme? Red, Blue or something different to represent their time on the Planet of the Sorcerers?
2) Depending on which paint scheme I choose, which paints should I select to do a reasonably good job?

Best regards,
Op

Here's a little picture to show you what they look like, if that helps. Yes there will be female guard in my army.

I didn't think any of the Spireguard survived and were brought over after the fall of Prospero. It would be a really nice way to theme cultists in a 1kSons army though, I'd be tempted to model them using allied IG rather than cultists however, especially as those excellent looking models you have look more professional than cultists. That way you can get primaris psyker and psyker battle squad, which seems fluffy since they would have warped and been prioritised to learn more pysker powers by their masters imo. Then you can just run the spireguard as platoons or vets depending on what works better.

I'd say the colour scheme would definitely have changed. Not sure how you'd go about it to make it both fit an yet still distinguish them from their superiors. Blue and yellow would fit but might not look good across the whole army. Tough call! Might need to paint a couple test schemes up and just strip the ones you don't like.

There aren't any Spireguard left, they all died on Prospero when the Wolves burned it. Only the actual Thousand Sons themselves were transported into the eye by Magnus.

The Thousand Sons did have a remnant of their armies, at least according to the old fluff. At one point they attacked Fenris with all their remaining mechanical troops and spireguard, though it all got wiped out in that battle.

Badablack is right. No Spireguard survived the battle on Fenris, and they weren't even real Spireguard. Just cultists with the name really.

Wow thanks for the replies all... it's a pity that none of the original spireguard survived. I'll have to read some of the books to figure out a way around it.
