Hi all

I have recently gotten back my painting mojo and was desperate to start a new project after speed painting 2k of necron at a pretty low table top standard.

I decided to have a crack at space wolves , so I went down to my local store and picked up a pack of space wolves and a load of the new paints. I got home and using some old models started testing the new paints but have been having real problems with Russ Grey, if I thin it it drys chalky if I don't it looks gloopy. I have tried lots of different ways to apply the paint but am not very happy. Can anyone help me achieve a smooth finish with the new gw paints?

I have included a PIC of my progress so far but am not happy...

Picture looks fine to me.

What I would suggest is that maybe rather than thinning the paint with water, try grabbing some Matte Medium or Airbrush medium and use that to thin with. Might help reduce that chalkiness you are getting.

Also make sure you give the paints a good shake before using them, the chalkiness could also be pigments separated out from the medium. If shaking doesn't work, get a toothpick and give it a proper mix.

I must say your painting is quite good, the pack markings are nice.

Basically use Lahmian Medium (GW) to thin it down an shake it quite a bit

Better yet dont buy GW medium ina 12ml pot, shop for Liquitex, Golden Or windsor and newton mediums. Much better value.
