So for my new tau army I want to paint them dark blue with a deep red spot colour.
I got the inspiration from the old cityfight cover (below)

Only problem is I can't find a paint scheme that makes the blue vibrant w e ought whilst still being dark
I keep ending up with a grey-blue regal blue kinda of colour
Any tips?

Prime black, blend up with mix of black and regal blue, highlight with regal blue or lighter is what i can think of.

That was the first thing I tried but regal's a bit dull for me
I was thinking something more like mixing in enchanted blue but I could get it right...

You could try black with grey/white highlights, and then mix the blue with some glaze medium, and glaze over it to make the highlights blue. If it is too light you can glaze over it again to darken it more until you get the effect you want.

Why not start with a lighter primer?

That's a decent idea. I tend not to paint that way but I might give it a go.
If anyone else has ideas, keep em coming

Or do the same starting in blue. You know, use a lighter blue as a base coat and then darken it with glazes.
