Greetings,

I'm working on building a feral ork army and don't have the cash to buy the FW squiggoths.  So am I wondering what things out there you would reccomend as the base monster to scratch build my own.  I'm looking at having 3 massive squiggoths in the list.

I looked into the LotR mumaks but they're also 65+ a piece which I think is too high.

The most common base used for Squiggoths is a plastic Dinosaur toy... I've seen several different ones used, but the Triceratops (or similar looking species) seems like the best to me.

You'll find them for a couple of dollars at any decent toystore.

You'd be surprised but I checked all the local toy stores and found now dinosaur toys big enough (basic dinos, like the old plastic ones).  All were to short in both length and height.

I looked at some star wars beasts but all the collecotrs out there are making them pricey.

My friend uses the same ones, he actually purchased a huge one, but uses 3; so for the other 2 he uses plastic dino's and green stuff.

You know, it occurs to me that you could use one of these kind of kits

To make one, if you're decent at using green stuff.  It might also give you the opputunity to, for example, replace a leg with a really gigantic bionic one made of plastic tubes and such.  Kind of like a really souped-up cyboar, but using a squiggoth instead of a boar.

This is the toy I point most people towards: http://store.dinosaurcorporation.com/noname.html

I should be painting.

I had several of those wooden ones when I was little, I wouldn't recommend them for 40k b/c they seem to have a habit of breaking when they fall over.

Do not use the CLEAR dice!

Dear Whiny Space Marine Players,
you get 3+ armor saves on all your troops (save scouts), Assault cannons, a huge assortment of vehicles and weapons, arguably one of the best if not THE best tank in the game, funny helmets, and a partrige in a pear tree.

suck it up, space marines. You're the emperor's chosen superhuman warriors. stop whining like a guardsmen and take it like a superman!

I'd reccomend using the old Dewback model that kenner put out in the late 70's.  You can usually find them on ebay for a few bucks.  I would not reccomend getting the newer ones, they dont look "orky" enough for some reason.

remove the saddle and a good drybrush of green.brown and they are ready for converting.

Hi !
I just saw your question and I made a smaller Squiggoth once, using a dinosaur toy I got at a dollar store .The plastic is hard but you can still cut away bits and I heat sewing pins with a candle to push through to make the joins between the Tank body and the mosters body vey strong.I hold the pins with a pair of pliers because they get hot btw LOL!Make a flat surface on the dinosaurs back for the "floor" base of the Tank body and then build the body as big as looks suitable for a Squiggoth....I think the Dino was a Tricerotops so it had horns but I used GS to make the armour, and I sculpted the Scales using a GS mold I made from a MacDonalds Shrek Toy I found LOL....Ive learned more now and would use a thinner plastic from an ice cream container or something because using a round point pen you can press "Rivets" into it.
I hope that helps and if its not clear or you wants more Orky-nose wats ,email me anytime
heres some pics of the squiggoth I made and I have a coolmini site that you can maybe get inspired by....Happy Modeling!

Nice work hopi.

It would be cool if you used one of the dinosaur skeletons, because if you stretched GS over it real thin for skin your squiggoth would look emaciated. That would be cool.

It's better to simply be an idiot, as no one can call you on it here. -H.B.M.C.

Cap'n Gordino's instant grammar guide:
"This is TOO expensive." "I'm going TO the store, TO get some stuff."
"That is THEIR stuff." "THEY'RE crappy converters."
"I put it over THERE." "I'll go to the store THEN."
"He knows better THAN that." "This is NEW." "Most players KNEW that."

with toys, you have to be careful - some plastics are soft and flexible and a pain to glue and paint

Keep in mind that GW is about to release a plastic stegadon, although it may be a bit small (hmm, sudden thought, it may be possible to put two of them end to end, hiding the join with a howdah/saddle, and make a 8 legged squiggoth? - we'll see when the model comes out)

It started life as a Rhino! But the key to working with green stuff Ive learned is do each section(smaller the better) completely and "LET IT DRY!" (Im not a patient person, lol) before starting the next plate, chain scale ect.ect.
I also heat sewing pins and burn them through the styrene sheets into the actuall modelwhich make for easy pining and a very strong finished piece! I love the comments and thanks ya'll for the feedback and questions!! Ive taught myself just by practice and looking at great sites pics(like this one)
