I've tried this banner part many time with nmm, I tried brass first, not enough contrast, I tried again with gold not enough blending and misplaced highlights I think, I tried again for copper, and then copper again which looked completely bad, finally I tried gold but I think it's come out more like hot metal rather than reflective.

I can't seem to get it quite right, anyone good at nmm, id appreciate some pointers.

I watched that tutorial and that is essentially how i painted the first of my attempts above, still doesn't come out that realistic, I've seen and read a lot of tutorials now but basically need to know what I'm doing wrong on the first and last images.

Normally I paint real metallics, but on the odd times I do simulated reflections and metallics, I find having a reference image or 10 to be most helpful. Chrome plated cattle skull brings up a bunch of handy images on Google.

I also have a drawer full of different pendants, charms and doo dads in different finishes that I can shine a light on from different angles to see how it plays on them. Again, handy to have around.
