On Friday I started to put together a diorama as part of a little project to do a display piece for most if not all the armies available in Warhammer 40,000. After doing a Dark Eldar Archon with two slaves for a display piece, I decided I really wanted to do a Sisters of Battle one. I also decided that I wanted it to be based on the cover art for the new digital codex which features three battle sisters wielding the "Holy trinity" of the Sisters of Battle ie: boltgun, flamer, and melta.
Friday I got the major parts, the figures, and the dreadnought base, to be specific. The wheel with the skeletal remains lashed to it are parts from a Vampire Counts corpse cart. The resin sections of basing mounted on the base with green stuff filling the gaps are from the 40k basing kit.
Yesterday, I did the priming, got started on the basing, as well as assembled the pole with the dead heretic witch. The heretic is a vampire counts skeleton. I used a horn from one of the helmets and stuck it on the skull. I also started spreading on some of the liquid green stuff to kind of put something approximating charred desiccated flesh. The shaft of the pole is from the box of Vampire Counts skeletons. The Inquisition icon, censer, and torch were from a bunch of Grey Knights, Dark Angel, an fantasy bits that someone gave to me at one of the GW stores I frequent.
Today, I decided that the torch I had on the top of the pole was a bit much as well as not that great of a sculpt so I cut it off. Focused on painting the base as well as the pole and dead heretic.

Thanks. Couldn't sleep last night so did a little more work on the sister carrying the bolt gun. I'm kind of at an impasse with regards to the torso though. A big problem I've had is that I've never found the color scheme that I absolutely liked, or rather I've never found a variation of the Order of Our Martyred Lady color scheme that I liked over all the other variations.
I love the look of the order, but I couldn't never truly decide if I preferred using gold or white. I've found that I really do prefer using white on the icons, so my army is painted that way with gold on the details of the torso. The gold does look good, but I'm wondering if I might want to go with white, or maybe I want to do something more subdued such as highlighting instead. I think what makes the decision a bit difficult for me is that the sculpts of the sisters don't completely match up with the art work in terms of some of the detail, which isn't a bad thing, but when you look at something that looks great in the artwork such as the new codex cover, or the cover art for the audio drama "Red and Black", or the "Faith and Fire" novel, it doesn't necessarily translate over very well to the miniature because of the differences in the sculpt...At least that how I feel, I could be full of crap.

I'm not fond of the gold either. I do my icons in grays highlighted with whites, I'd do the studs and such on the torso in boltgun, hightlighted with mithril silver. Really like the look of the Diorama, keep it up!

Thanks! I gave it a try and I'm liking how it's looking so far. I'll go back and touch upmy actual army accordingly at a later date.

Been working on the sister with the bolter. Will probably change colors for the highlights on the armor. The blue isn't bad but I want to try something much more subtle like maybe mechanicus standard.

I like that a lot. For me personally, I prefer the blue highlights on Sisters. Nice details though, keep it up!

Much better! Very nice.
Re: Helmets. If you're willing to do some chop and swap, you can take the heads off metal models and replace them with Immo Driver helmeted heads.

The helmets are like the prize in a Cracker Jack box. But yes, if you've got the patience and skill you can definitely take the head option from an immolator. In a way, it might actually end up better because sometimes the metal figures that have the helmets don't cast all that well and look kind of off, though that's becoming true with a lot of the old metal figures. The molds are probably wearing out.
