Here we have the first painted up miniature from this years Christmas haul. Haven't painted a Blood Raven before, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Hope you enjoy - feedback always welcome!

Red seems off, needs more Bone colors.

Google Dawn of war II veterans.

Clean paint job looks good.

It looks good. It's a very neat paintjob. I especially like the eagle detailing on the end of his chainsword.

If you wanted to polish it a little more, you might consider adding some brighter red highlights in a few places - the edge of his collar, wrists, hands, and so on.

I would brighten up the red as well. It's just a little dull for BA...you can always wash it down a bit darker when you use a bright color. But overall clean paint job. What gold do you use? I like the way it turned out.

Yeah, seconded - the gold is swell.

The golds look great, but it could definitely use some more bone areas. I could look past that though, but the left shin (his left) is really throwing me. That banner needs something. A name, a number, or the ever-popular vague black squiggle. Leaving it blank makes the whole model look unfinished.

In any event, great work on the metallics! This is a really nice paint job!

Thanks for all the feedback! I'll work on adding text to the shin and highlighting the armour tomorrow and post my results for you to see.

For those who asked, here is the gold recipe:

Base coat the area with GW Mornfang Brown.

Next apply 2-3 thin coats of GW Gehenna's Gold, this metallic won't cover evenly in one coat, and is quite thick out of the pot, so do several thin coats making sure the last has had plenty of time to dry to avoid brush strokes on the model.

Next wash the gold with GW Reikland Fleshshade, the warm tone of this shade works well with the hint of red in the Gehenna's Gold.

Once the wash is dry, lightly overbrush with more Gehenna's Gold, taking care to leave the shade in the recesses.

Finally, use GW Auric Armour Gold to highlight the extreme edges. I normally use silver to highlight gold, but wanted to keep the warmth of the Gehenna's Gold so went with the lightest gold GW do - Auric Armour Gold.

Ok I'm just using the wrong colors. I base with Rhinox Hide then layer Runelord Brass then Auric Gold, wash with Agrax Earthshade and highlight Auric again....never love the way it turns out.
