Hi guys,

A while back, while painfully edge highlighting my marines, something inside of me snapped and I realised that if I didn't stop doing armies that were so clean and crisp I was going to stab myself with a paintbbrush in the eye.

It was time to do the opposite of a clean cut army, Papa Nurgle called to me.

I have always liked the ill feeling that Nurgle gave me. And really wanted to cut loose with the spew blood and poo that Nurglites know and love.

I also hated the GW great unclean one, lacked the malicious yet jovial character that the fluff portrays in all the books, so knew it was time to attempt my first scratch built model.

Initial sketch for papa.
I really wanted him to have a mischevious yet downright scary feel to him. He needed to feel terrifying but at the same time have a pudgy fat uncle feel to him.

And then I started to Sculpt. The skeleon I wanted cheap yet robust, and seeing as though I would be doing the outside skin with epoxie sculpt, the inside could be a bit mushy. Plasticene coated with superglue - skeleton for ten bucks . Starting with an idea in my head of him pointing out over the swarms of minions casting some glorious illness on hapless mortals.

I really hate drawing / sculpting hands and seeing as though this would be my first scratch build, I cheated and stole hands from the soulgrinder kit and an old predator toy I had.

The Forgeworld Unclean One captures the feeling a fair amount more IMO, but all power to you for scratch building!

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

I then started sculpting around the skeleton with epoxie sculpt.

I wanted him to look relatively muscley - as much as his skin is falling apart in the fluff, I find that he looks TOO fragile. I had kingpin from Marvel Comics as an inspiration. Big, Fat, Tough.

So I went to town with the muscles - I wanted his arms to look massive.

But of course - he is still nurgle so he will still be falling apart to some degree.

At least had to have his guts on display.

Once the body's basic shape was down pat I nervously dove into the face. I at least had my sketch to work off but was incredibly hesitant to start this.

I used plastic toothpicks for teeth. Big smiling maw full of barbs!

I wanted spirally spindally horns, so used the branches for Dryad sprues (cut down a little)

I tried to follow my sketch as much as possible, really trying to get that big swollen eye looking down his arm as he casts his foul magics. His other eye is to be a shrivelled over little mutated eye.

Now the fun part! Details

Green stuff green stuff and more green stuff - plus a couple of parts from the chaos spawn kit.

Giant pustules ready to explode, irritated infected hemorrhoids, Gashes in his flesh, A pulsating maggot nest in his back. Anything I could think of to make him as beautifully Nurglish as possible.

[Thumb - image[6].jpeg]
Maggots, hemorrhoids, Spines oh my!

And an undercoat / little bit of shading later and he's starting to come together.

This is his current state, needed a breather from painting him for a bit, to work on my plaguebearers a bit.

Will keep you all up to date with his progress as he comes along.

As I was having a break from my GUO - I decided to start a little bit of scultping to get my Daemon Prince - the Lord of Flies - going.

Hopefully have this guy riddled with maggots and such later, very basic start, but an idea.

Needed to have a break from him too as I nearly threw it getting those wings to stay.....

Seeing as though converting / modelling is about to give me a heart attack, i decided it was time to paint some Plaguebearers.

This is the test model I did last night, going to start batching them tomorrow.

The new technical paints are AMAZING. I used every single one on this - bar the blood as i am comfortable using tamiya clear red so stuck with it for now.

Going to start batching my other plague bearers tonight, will let you know how I go!

Tell me what you think

Mmm lots of good stuff in here.

I'm interested to see how you tackle the legs for your GUO. He seems a bit more muscular and beefy than the usual ones, so are you thinking of rocking less of a 'sitting' sort of pose?

Nice start on the DP. If you can get a hexagonal piece of rod or a hex-head screw you can make some awesome looking eyes, fly style, super easy.

Thanks mate, have thought of using a hex screwdriver to do the eyes, not sure how I will do them. Will have a play and post here. As far as GUO goes he is definitely more muscled than the normal one, But I've still gone for the whole sitting thing, barely able to walk due to the immense bloat
