So I've decided on my new ary for 40K being tyranids and picked up my first model today, a hive tyrant.

The plan is to do an unboxing of everything I buy and a step by step of the painting. Was talking it over with my flgs and they said we only had one other tyranid player so that made my mind up for me.

For the big bugs, I will magnetize all arms, so I can have any combination, though any tips on were to buy the magnets and how to attach would be very helpfull.

And now to go look into the Tyrant box as its been years since I have done Tyranids and theb it was the old metal Tyrants

So having opened the box and had a good look through it. I an impressed and although missing some weapon options has a lot of promise.

I have thrown up some sprue pictures to start. I especially like the wings. Back when I last did nids, well I had a flying tyrant and I had to make it out of fantasy dragon wings and green stuff which looked ok but still not quite nid like.

Like I said though my gripe with set is the lack all options is slightly disappointing but managable one I start building my kits up.

Also looking for a name for my own hive fleet lol, I'll be starting a similar blog to this soon
Have you come up with a paint scheme for them yet?
Also yes I found my old tryanid models now I'm getting back into painting, and I'll hopefully be able to salvage them, my metal hive tryant is pretty broken, but I think I can repair him. I see that you have the swarmlord variant since I see the wings in there, I really like the look of the flying hive tyrants, really would like to get one. Please show pics once you have him assembled!

Painting each piece as I assemble as I remember the monters being a pain otherwise.

I'm going with a lightis green skin purple chitin, and brown plates weapons etc

Now I started on the main torso and have finished the skin I think might dry brush another layer at some point.

So I didn't do as much as I wanted per say but I did manage to do thelower half of the body, barring a few small details. Namely the weapon spikes on the tail. Attached the two sections together and attached them to the base. Also base greened the legs ready for painting. I will upload pictures tomorrow

Though not intentionally I am seeming to improve the speed with which I can paint the green which given its like 70% of the tyranids im happy with that

so not been able to do much lately due to working night shifts, but i went and obtained my copy of the new codex today, and wow is all i can say really, while my long term nid player friend is really disappointed by the codex as they have nerfed the crap out of tyranid combat (with the exception of the new combat gribbly) and removed access to all brb powers, id rather take the codex powers andways.

The fact that an all monster list is also completely viable is awesome. and i have now got what will be my tournament list going forward, and it will also give me a good chance to get my hands on the 2 new kits (of which i will be building 3 of the 4 variants)

all that is left on the tyrant to do now is the wings, having not had much time to update this or even paint, the keen eyed members of this forum would have noticed he was missing the details on his body, that has been corrected now.

Next Project:
So i also picked up one of the Haruspex/Exocrine kits today, and wow this beast looks damn good and could challenge the tevrigone in size by the looks of things.

this will be fun and once i finish the tyrant hopefully by tonight i will start on him with an unboxing set of pics etc

Thanks i wanted my nids to be really alien looking and think i achieved this.

So finally got more time off work after covering even more night shifts, and finally got to finidh the model of my flyrant, though the base will be waiting till the end of the month as the stuff i want to do with it i need to buy some more bits for, as you can see in the pics i've started making what will be sess pools out of bits of sprue, an idea i got off a you tube video.

I tried to go with an in flight look, which i kind of achieved.

This is the what you would see looking at it across the table

A look from a slightly below angle showing all the deatils of the main body

The left side again trying for the flying look

and so with the Flyrant done,I had to decide what to work on next, and decided the best one was the new figure, the Haruspex and so here is the unboxing and partial assembly line.

uuuuugggggggh so much green on the big dude lol, at least the first 2 of 4 layers is done on the main body and legs now anyways.

leaves about 4 hours work to do on the legs and body for green, the purple takes about 2 hours and there is very little on the big guy atm so will make it nice and quick hopefully, and leave the hooves and claws to do.

Though the biggest problem i have is deciding how to deal with the gaping maw that is his gob, that's a face only ya mumma could love, im thinking red all over with the pink tongue like i did on the tyrants mouth.

any ideas?
[Thumb - Haruspex 1.jpg]
Looking good though i think really the Haruspex cover would of looked better.

[Thumb - Haruspex 2.jpg]
Well now that i have done the majority of the assembly in one hit, nearly all the kit is for the Haruspex.

[Thumb - Haruspex 3.jpg]

[Thumb - Haruspex 4.jpg]
And the size of this thing other than tanks, will make this the largest model i have ever painted,

So i fdinished my painting for the evening, having finished the Flyrant, i set about starting all the building and painting work of the Haruspex.

The kit itself was really simple to put together, except the mouth, which took me longer than the rest of the model. I definitely recommend dry assembling the mouth firstotherwise it can be a pain.

So I set about the green and decided the head will be done seperately when when I start doing the mouth and kept the whole thing in sub-sections 4 leg limbs main body and the chitin. And went about painting using a Large brush.

I primed the model with Army Painter Grey, then base coated all the green sections Waaagh Flesh. making sure it was all covered.

To this i then went over all but the deepest reccesses with Warboss Green.

And final lick of paint was Skarsnik Green, picking out just about all but long thin recesses, and other small details, and finally washing the whole area with Biel-Tan Green

And here are the results:

I am absolutely hating the harupex project its still sat on my paint station in pieces, I noticed with the access of a pc that my phone was providing very shoddy images so i picked up a new camera for around the £40 pound make today and tried some tester shots out.

already impressed and it has reinvigorated my enthusiasm for this blog. some of the testers to be posted shortly

So a project i started a few days ago is the Harpy, which I have nearly finished already using this for the tester photo's etc
[Thumb - DSCF5137.JPG]
so these 3 were the first testers and they didnt work out too well then about 30 shots later...

[Thumb - DSCF5138.JPG]

[Thumb - DSCF5139.JPG]

[Thumb - DSCF5140.JPG]
I got these 3 coming out, now there are white spots on the photos which is strange as when i check the actual model at those points i find nothing

So here is the Harpy in all her glory minus the Spore mines, still need to do something with the base but that is atm undecided as it would be criminal to do nothing

next stop 2 close combat warrior to go with 3 ranged and a prime.starting to get a good spped system going on this project having completed 3 other warriors and the harpy in seven day, while theat dont sound brilliant, by my time lines thats what most people probably do in 2 days of speed painting from posts ive seen on other forums.
