Great looking force you have there. My only advice is better pics!! Watch out for that Korn Mower.

Just forgot what I was going to say.

Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

The painting is superb and the feel of Imperial Fists is strong, so in that point of view the army is really well executed.
One slight criticism om the fluff side is that Captain Lysander was a sergeant in power armour in pre-heresy times..
But it's nothing really...

Sweet Jesus, Nurgle and Slaanesh in the same box!?
No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.

Love love love it. Great models, scheme, feel, etc exalted.

Love the models, but the paint job is sub par at best. Not trying to be a hater, but the weathering on these doesn't have me sold. Painted inlayed chips in metallic color is tacky. Look at some reference pictures of worn, chipped and rusted vehicles before painting an entire army!

Have fun playing with them!

Sub par at best? Honestly Chootum?

You better be one hell of a painter to call that sub par. Compared to a lot of stuff out there this is head and shoulders above it. Sub par pfft!

Lets see some of your work then...

I think they look fantastic.
If this is sub par, I'm gonna hide mine away.

Chootum, I agree with Flippa, if your gonna criticize what I reckon is a very well painted army, you should show us the quality you produce.

Excellent work. This is a great themed army, ever model fits, and anyone who can paint that much yellow that consistently deserves either a medal or a knighthood! Great stuff.

You pick him up on that and ignore the Stormtalons?

Forge World, Rogue Trader and stripes? Yes, please. Looks brilliant mate. I like the weathering too, looks really good on the tabletop

I have no idea how the stormtalon fluff goes, so I just let it be.

Why should Chootum have to justify saying this army is subpar? He's entitled to his own opinion. And from reading his comment it would appear his feelings stems from the way they are weathered. Which I would agree seems a little rushed and not realistic in the slightest.

Also that style Drop pod was not used Pre-Heresy as well.

What EM? As realistic as 8' tall genetically enhanced super soldiers?

Point being few people achieve a fully painted army that they game with and get to enjoy... Sub par? Definitely not... He doesn't need to justify his comments at all in fact he can be as big as an ass hat as he likes, I was brought up if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything... but hey that's just me. The only constructive thing he had to say was "Look at some reference pictures of worn, chipped and rusted vehicles before painting an entire army!" without knowing what Hinkel even tried to achieve with his painting. Maybe he wasn't going for a realistic look and maybe he was going for a comic strip style of painting. Truth be told I just don't know, all I know is it takes dedication and commitment to the hobby to a: get a force of that size and b: get it painted in a uniform and and completed state.

To just dismiss his models as Tacky is uncalled for, when considering some of his other posts he can be quite constructive, IDK maybe he was having a bad day or something.

As for the inconsistencies of minis and units in his army not being Pre-Heresy that can be said for a lot of the armies on here! In fact one of the nicest painted armies I've seen "Scar's Pre Heresy Emperors Children" has the self same drop pod on page 3 and no one bats an eyelid oh and on page 10 it has 2 mkVII marines flying a landspeeder and yet no complaints.

Hey, thanks for all the comments, I know there are a few things in there not pre heresy, they are just part of my list and I wanted to show then off. I have 9 centourions that I am painting now to add to this. But all my troops and terminators are pre heresy. All my normal tanks are mk1. I have 7 land raiders the old mk1 ones that are fully Magnatized to be all 3 , I know only land raiders were pre heresy though. Ally stern guard and vanguards and converstions of old mk2 heads and body's with stern guard legs, they look great. Even my bikes are some jet bike scimatars and regular bikes, but all heads and bodies are close to pre heresy if not. More pics to come later. And thank you

Sorry but I wasn't trying to start an argument here. It's a good looking army! I'm just not a fan of the chipping effects done so large and cartoony, with inlayed metallic colors within the first paint chip color. That's a technique that used to be pretty prevalent in military modeling 15+ years ago. Since then we have transitioned to a more realistic looking inlayed rust, with first chipping color being of a lighter color rather than darker. I'm not a professional painter, nor I claim to be better than anybody else. And most certainly I will not post pictures on another person's thread. I am just expressing my opinion and personal aesthetic preference, that is what these forums are for. I tend to prefer realistic, Mig Jimenez like modeling. Just a personal opinion.

Again, nice job on these Imperial Fists. They look nice!

Despite that a marine is not a realistic figure, but it doesn't mean that you can't use a realistic weathering technique. My problem is that there are these giant chucks of silver but no small chips which would be more common than the large chips.
Also when you look close up the yellow is flat and thickly painted.

Part of this army is also a commission painted by Crystal Dragon Miniatures on facebook.

Not getting into a gak flinging contest here. I'm sure Hinkel is big enough to look after himself.

@ExiledMiniatures no GW sculpts are realistic and there are many different ways of painting and whether it's commissioned or not is irrelevant how he's got his army painted and the overall effect is a grand army that's lovely to look at and no doubt game against. Each to their own the world would be boring if we all agreed on stuff.

@Chootum not that you probably care but that was a much nicer post and in a completely different tone to your first. Things that I have noticed over the years of doing this hobby is that it seems locked in its own little world and doesn't get what other modellers consider the norm until years after. I mean it wasn't a lot more than 15 years ago that all 40k minis looked like they'd just rolled off the production line, clean, bright and completely at odds with the universe it was set in like these...

So are you being so critical because you paint professionally and you are taking a swipe at another painting biz, or do you just generally like to come in to paint threads and gak on other people's work?

And if you know this army was partially commissioned why feel the need to disparage the paintwork if the OP wasn't the painter and likely can't (or won't) be able to use the criticism to improve (never mind that the OP never asked for constructive criticism about the army in the first place)? Is it to drum up business? Or just take a dump on Crystal Dragon Miniatures? Why mention Crystal Dragon at all? Essentially what are you trying to do in this thread other than come off as rude?

Certainly you and Choppa are entitled to your opinions, and if the weathering and paint application on this army isn't to either of your standards, then so be it. But it still is rather douchey to nitpick someone's army out of the blue and without any purpose. Remember, this is an army that someone took the time to purchase, get assembled and painted, for the purpose of playing with and having fun. So it isn't super photo realistic. So what? It is a damn fine looking army and does the trick of representing the chosen Chapter well while not being a sea of gray plastic models. Kudos to the OP for achieving a fully painted army. I hope he has fun using it and his opponents have fun playing against it.
