I'm not sure if it's been asked before but I could find much about it on here.
What do you folks keep your paints in or how do you store them. I'm only asking as I had to many for the case I had previously and needed something bigger. So I added a real cheap ass shelf to it as a short term solution. It go me thinking about how others store there paints and what solutions there are about. I know there are some nice laser cut ones about but they would be expensive to keep them in and take up a lot of space too. Automatically Appended Next Post: Sorry the pictures are 90 degrees I'm using my phone to post and not sure why they have turned.

I use an 'artbin' - basically a plastic tool box with cantilever trays, aimed at arts/crafts storage.
It handily fits the citadel pots pretty well, although mines now full and I'm in a similar boat to you.
I think I got it here a long time back for keeping drawing inks and thigns in.

I got the paint set so it comes in a figure case which works very well for storing the paints in.

I just have them on the table scattered amid what I'm working on usually... sometimes I get all organized and line them up in order of use.

I picked up a nail polish wall rack similar to the one at this link. I find it's a great space saver and very organized if you have the room to hang it.

A handful of years ago, I got one of the big GW Mega Paint Sets. It came in a nice, thick plastic, gray briefcase, with foam inserts for all of the (albeit not complete by today's paint list) paints. That lived in my cool basement, and sat around for 2 years, with everything staying good. Painted some 40K stuff and some Super Dungeon Explore!, and no problems other than my skill level. When I was in college, my friend who got me into Warhammer 40K had a dual-layer, round, spinning shelf thing; I think something like nail polish was probably meant to go on it, at some point. It didn't shield them but it moved easily enough, and allowed you to see, and get at any paint jar on it.
With my limited access to GW stuff, short of ordering it, and its cost, I suggest a cool, dark place, to preserve them (this is my experience, at least. Also, if you use a clip light, or something, to get good lighting close to the minis, keep the jar away, as they get hot. You know this, already, but I felt like saying it; i can waste enough GW paint on a bad mini, or a base coat; no point in adding to it by drying out the jar with a warm lamp. It does help my actual minis dry a bit faster, of course.

A nice tackle box. All the paints are in the large bottom sections, and in the upper tiers I keep all my hobby tools, glue, replacement parts, etc.
Generally when it's folded and closed, the compartments get sealed as areas close on each other, so transportation isn't a problem. I've begun to outgrow it though, my collection of paints is getting really large now so some re-thinking is going to be necessary, or the acquisition of a new box.

I used a plastic box from the Arts store with multiple pull-out shelves. I still use this when I travel to someone elses place to paint. But at the house, i recently built a shelf after i saw this ....

Mine is much smaller, but i really like it at the work bench.

For my Vallejo paints I have one of the acrylic racks from Back 2 Base-ix, very nice but not cheap. I keep the few GW pots I still have in a drawer. I have a rack that fits them too, but it takes up a bit too much space and would be half empty.

I have drawers in my computer/painting desk and keep the paints in them or in the drawer or this tower bin thing that I keep all the rest of my hobby stuff in that is beside the desk.
I only have about 20-25 paints so no need for a special case. I was thinking about a homemade rack made from wooden dowels and some MDF but we will see how it goes

^This. Specifically, I have one of these: http://www.planomolding.com/product.php?BCCID=110&PID=645
I've carried it outside in the rain and snow, taken it on the bus, and it's held up incredibly well.

I currently use a couple of these:
But I want to get either:
the extra large 3 tier paint rack from http://www.progeng.co.uk/paint-racks#!__paint-racks but they're quite expensive at £85
Or (which I've just found the other night) 2 of these to save space:
from http://www.wargame-model-mods.co.uk/ourshop/prod_2949950-paint-stand-120-pots.html which are only £27.99 each which I can mount on the wall.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!! |

Ah Bubber those paint racks you've linked in http://www.progeng.co.uk/paint-racks#!__paint-racks are exactly what I've been looking for ^^ however, in that £85 one you mentioned it says "holds 256 Andrea/Vallejo type dropper bottles" - I'm wondering, are those bottles the same size as GW ones?

No, they're about 30% taller and, perhaps more importantly for storage, they have a smaller diameter.

No - the GW pots have a larger diameter.
However the smaller 2-tier lets you choose the paint pot type.
You could always contact them & ask if they could do the large one with the pot type you have - they may even be able to do each shelf as a different hole size if you mixed paint pot types like me.
