Hello all! Haven't been playing that much recently and
was happy to start a casual campaign with a friend.
Me with the Tyranids and Him with Imperial Guard.
We played a couple Kill-Team games first to give
us some minor advantages in our bigger game.
The Campaign is basically Tyranids invading a planet with a large planetary garrison
and such we used a mission from the battle missions expansion called "First Contact."
It forced the Imperial Guard to have some random deployment and the Tyranids would show up
on random board edges.
So Here are the lists:
(Disclaimer: we can probably make better lists but these are
thematic first encounter lists, not alot of heavy stuff.)
Tyranids 1040 (Extra points from Killteam)
140-Tyranid Prime-Deathspitter, Maw Claws
165-3x Hive Guard
100-2x Lictor

Imperial Guard-Defender
Special Rules:
Divide the Table into 24"x24" sections and put an objective in each section
Defender Rolls a die and places their unit anywhere in the corresponding section.
(since we played on a 4'x4' we re-rolled 5s and 6s.)
Defenders can't reserve any units.
Attackers don't deploy. Attacker's forces use same random roll to figure out which section
they're coming on for the first turn.
Attackers always get first turn.
Every non-vehicle model is scoring.
Random Game Length
Victory Conditions:
Objectives in exact center of each quadrant, whoever controls the most at the end of the game wins.
Deployment:
So for his deployment his
LRBT, Blob, knife-fighter Penal Legion,
PCS, and Chimera Vet get the bottom left quadrant as their deployment zone.
Sentinel get bottom right quadrant for it's deployment zone. And The Stealth vets, gunslinger Penal Legion, and
CCS get top right quadrant.
Nothing in top left.
Tyranid Turn 1:
I opt not to keep the lictors in reserve and so my entire force shows up for turn one. Lictors enter the top right quadrant that has no imperial guard but then the rest of my army all comes in from top right. I was hoping the lictors would get some kind of support but oh well, they'll make a good distraction I hope with stealth and 6 wounds to go through. Tervigon perils his onslaught attempt with boxcars but poops out 12 gaunts who then kill a few Gunslingers. Tervigon's shooting kills a couple guys from the
CCS who then fail morale. Combined fire from my PrimeGaunt unit and the warriors wipes the stealth vets off the face of the earth. Hive Guard easily pop the poor sentinel with a boom.
IG Turn 1:
CCS easily rallies, Leman Russ shuffles to face the oncoming Tyranids. Gunslinger Penal Legion cautiously move back while staying in range to shoot.
CCS orders blob to Fire on My Target! on the lictors who then proceed to fail 8/13 3+ cover saves before the re-rolls! Hah! Wasted that order! Leman Russ only kills a single warrior thanks to poor wounding and cover saves. Gunslingers roll poorly and only kill 4 gaunts.
Tyranid Turn 2:
Tervigon casts Onslaught on the HIve Guard.(who are hiding behind the castle tower in alot of the pictures). Everything scoots, spreads out then runs except the Tervigon, Hive guard, and the 8-man unit of Gaunts. Hive Guard take out the rest of
CCS. Tervigon poops out 12 more gaunts. Tervigon and 8 man unit of gaunts kill 4 more Gunslingers. Prime Moves to warrior unit to tank Battle Cannon Wounds.
IG Turn 2:
Everything backs up a bit except the Chimera Vet Squad who disembarks to get some shots off on the Hive Guard, which they do and kill one of them. Knife-fighters kill a few gaunts with shooting as does the Leman Russ. Big blob finishes the 8-man unit of gaunts.
Tyranid Turn 3:
Tervigon casts Onslaught on Warriors+Prime and poops out 14(!) more gaunts before finally becoming exhausted. Everything except the Hive guard and Big Guant squad press forward. Warrior shooting does way below what is expected and only kills 8 Knife-Fighters....But they run away!! 12 man unit of gaunts finish off the last 3 Gunslingers. 14 man Gaunt unit kills 2 from blob squad. Hive Guard miss with everything Tervigon knocks 1
HP off
LRBT. Tervigon attempts to charge the
LRBT but only rolls a 5 and just sits there.
IG Turn 3:
Vets who killed a HIve guard chase them but still fail to do anything to the sturdy bugs. Blob Murders new unit of 14 gaunts.
LRBT shoots at the warriors and kills the prime and a warrior, but the prime did his job bravely!
Tyranid Turn 4:
Warriors and Tervigon charge forward while everything else huddles around objectives or cover. Tervigons fails onslaught but takes another
HP off of the
LRBT with grubs. Hive guard attmept to assist but roll 4 1s to hit...well I guess the vets chasing them certainly spooked them. Warriors pick off a few of the blob squad before charging with a massive 10" and killing half of the blob for one casualty in return. Tervigon finally gets his revenge on the
LRBT and wrecks the metal beast with a well-placed smash. WIth just a unit of vets, a chimera, a
PCS, a doomed blob squad, and no way to take back the objectives the Imperial Guard concede defeat to the Great Devourer.
Tyranid MVP: Tervigon!!! not what she used to be but damn, 38 gaunts is alot of bodies to deal with not to mention helping with holding my line and picking off guardsmen here and there.
As well as Wrecking the
LRBT after it took out sizeable chunks of my army.
Imperial Guard MVP: Blob Squad. Killed so many Tyranids, especially the gaunts, killing them as fast as the tervigon made them.
Thanks for reading! This is my first battle report and I do apologize for the wonky pics, but the phone camera is a little stubborn.
Any feedback is appreciated, and if you just enjoyed the battle report feel free to comment also!
