Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

So I play Raven Guard, but recently I've decided to start using Ultramarines Traits for one of my lists. To really take advantage of the Ultramarines trait I decided to make a counts as Tigerius I had out of spare bitz, however this was a bit tricky since I had just gotten rid of all my spare grey knights bitz...

Here's what I've got so far:

Fairly plain and not too ostentatious; I like it.
I assume he'll be painted blue as he's a librarian? It's just that he doesn't look too librarian-ish as it is. If he was painted black I'd say he was a chaplain as the staff could pass for a crozius.

I'm going to try and make my own psychic hood for him; I was just assembling before I went to work. As for the paint scheme I don't think blue will be a primary colour for him, since it can look too out of place. I'm going to do his loincloth and maybe a shoulder pad blue, the hood too if I can make a satisfactory one.

You can make a decent psychic hood by standing a shoulder pad on the back lip of the power armor and trimming away the excess material. Add in some green stuff and some wire and your golden.

Ya that's pretty much exactly what I was going for, minus the wires (cuz I'm cheap )

So I made a hood, it's not the greatest level of conversion I've ever done, but it gets the point across

Not a fan of the cloth on his shoulder, other than that I give it a thumbs up.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

Yea I slapped that on because I didn't have any librariany bitz. And figured I could paint it up to look suitable.

Anyone have any ideas on how to improve the hood?

K so I haven't updated this in a few days mainly because I was really trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted some normal blue on the model to represent the librarium and a bit of gold for his ornamentation and to show his Cheif Librarian status, but at the same time I didn't want to end up with "full bling" like I have on my terminator librarian model. On top of that I wanted to show some his psychic abilities to some extent just in case there was any confusion about him being a librarian or chaplain. However, my main goal was to preserve my normal scheme for Raven Guard so it felt like he really fit in, something that I tend to stray from with my leaders. So with all of this I hadn't done much than basecoat things like the purity seals and the blue cloth.

I painted the cloth up first by mixing space wolves grey in with regal blue, the highlights are a little sloppy but its very eye catching from a distance and I can always go back to fix it.

Next I did the purity seals by painting the parchment dheneb stone and the wax mephiston red (I hate the thickness and its inability to cover well), followed by a brown wash. After that was dry I just layered over that with the same paints.

The studded shoulder pad followed with a basecoat of astronomicon grey (it will be a sad day when I need to find the new equivalent), washing the studs with black and then highlighting with ulthuan grey.

I decided to psychic up the hood with some blue energy. I started with regal blue and then mixed it with P3s arcane blue and then mixed the arcane blue with white for its glowy effect.

For his pistol I knew i wanted to go for an antique or baroque look so I basecoated it with warplock bronze and then dry brushed it with runelord brass, sycorax bronze, a mix of sycorax and shining gold, and then I added some of P3s radiant platinum into the previous mix, washing it with agrax earthshade to finish it off. I liked the ned result so much I decided to use it for his bionics rather than just paint it silver.

Because I was on a gold/bronze kick I went to do the rest of it on the model; the staff head, the bands of the staff and some purity seal attachments. I basecoated these with dwarf bronze, brown washed them and then highlighted with shining gold, burnished gold, and then some radiant platinum. However the staff head contrasted far too much with his pistol and I really didnt like how it had turned out so I repainted it with the same pistol technique (much more pleased with that).

Finally, his face was done with a tallarn flesh basecoat, followed by a reikland flesh wash and then highlighted with tallarn flesh, kislev flesh and elf flesh. I used a tiny bit of bloodletter glaze around the bionics to represent sore flesh and in the gash in his head (I also glazed underneath his eyes to make it look like he was strained from being 165 pts and OP, but it got covered up when I was fixing his eyeballs). For the eyes I painted them white, washed them with a mixture of nuln oil, regal blue and leviathan purple and then highlighted them with space wolves grey to give them a "about shoot you with mid bullets" feel.

Overall I'm super pleased with how his face and the bronze/brass turned out, but I still have details like pressure gauges on the pistol to do, the aforementioned red glaze under the bottom eyelids, cleaning up his power armour and free hand on the purity seals.

Here's some pictures so far:

Ya theres fully a lot of work still to do. I need to do the haft of the staff, the base, second round of highlights on the power armor, wash and highlight the silver, and then freehand.

Freehand the librarian symbol, the skull with horns. That'd be sick.

Stellar job, man. I am quite impressed! I always love when a cool conversion ends up being an even cooler finished (or finished-ish) product.

His hood reminds me of a lacrosse stick, perfect to catch a grenade!

Nice kit bash, I think you did rather well for yourself here.

Thanks so much guys, really helps the motivation

Yea I'm thinking on the "drape" you hate so much

Any ideas for the haft of his staff?

Leave the staff as is, it looks good. If you do the symbol it will look weird being directly under the raven guard symbol, maybe the other cloth?
