Its been 17 years since I played 40k and I'm tackling the Dark Vengeance kit with a Night Lords theme. I sucked as a painter back then, and since my local meta fields mostly single-color primed armies, I really don't have much to compare to. Suggestions, tips and encouragement are plenty welcome! This is my first post here, and I'm glad to be a part of the community. Thanks!

The Face, "Spine", horns, and ripped up marine are awesome on the Hellbrute.
I'm really liking the ripped up marine and the gore details. Excellent job.

Thanks! This model has been one giant test, from the machine/flesh separations to those maddening lightning bolts on the armor. The ripped up marine was especially fun to do!

Not a model I like, but I'd say you're off to a great finish, with him. Nice job on the, ahem, basing....

Now, now, we musn't laugh at the deceased. It's "de-basing."

That is one of the cooler Helbrute's I've seen, a space marine spinal column lol. Awesome.

Brilliant base idea, inspired. Although it wouldn't have been the same outcome if it had been an Ultramarine

...and don't say "no, then the armour would have been blue"

I like it! Definitely agree with everyone about the gore on the base of the Helbrute. That's a nice touch.

Just a tip with the lightning, though: Don't go for pure white right away. Use a really light blue to make the lightning patterns, then use white on the insides of it and not in a way that totally covers all of the light blue.

For the lightning, I actually used Teclis Blue as a base, and then took Scar White over it, using a shaky-pattern, but it's tough not to be really heavy handed. Me thinks a new, smaller brush is required. I've also thought about watering down the Scar White so its not quite bold.

The blue is definitely noticeable. Although I agree the white could be thinner. And by "thinner," I mean in terms of line thickness. I like the opaque coverage you have now...

Perfect Shot Dark Angels Predator Pilot

From a distance the horns, and fleshy cables/tentacles have a tendancy of dissappering into the model, slightly lighter tone might fix that.

Otherwisee it looks splendid

I dunno, I like the cohesiveness it lends. Also, some of that blending in might be mainly a product of photography. I find many times models look great under magnification, and like a load of c ruddiness in a photo, even at a smaller size.
