Just posting this here to keep track of the skirmish board game Demigod Rising.

What is Demigod Rising?
*A skirmish board game for 2 to 4 players.
* Hybrid card/miniature game
*4 Demigod roles for players to choose from, Each one conforming to a different play style the Attacker, the defender, the Tactician, and the Illusionist. Each role also includes a supporting card deck.
* A hero pool with 20 unique heroes to choose from. There are Heroes from 4 different races/ each having 5 unique roles represented among them.
*The game also Features some unique dice mechanics.

Game Background

In a world of Argalla, 4 races lived in peace. Humans had their kingdom of Erom. Lulled into security they lived quiet lives under patronage of king Rutefus. Humans worshiped the God of Life who in return blessed them with well-being and he even occasionally spoke with them through the prophet. They were easy-going people in general. Hard work during day and family dinner after sunset was all that most humans lived for. It was a time of the piece.

Elven race was always wrapped in a veil of mystery. They lived a secluded life under the treetops of Imerin forest, never mixing with other races. The elves had no male members among them; it was that way from the first day of their existence. Their God lived among them in a form of High elder, ever young, ever beautiful. Elves lived in love and harmony with nature, and nature they lived to protect. Even in the time of Piece.

Orcs were always considered savages by other races. They were hot-tempered, quick to start a fight over anything, but beside that they were also respectful toward their elders. Hierarchy played big role in their society. Orcs worshiped Dual sex deities called Varfu and Shel who had their representatives among Orcs in forms of Overlord and Shaman. Orcs were made for war; they worked on expanding their territory and increasing their numbers, waiting for the right time to conquer the world. But it was still time of Peace.

Dwarfs spend most of their lives living in their underground kingdom called Drelif. Their skill in metalworking and tinkering could only be matched by their ability to withstand massive amounts of liquor. Dwarfs were honorable and proud race. They were ruled by King Pureiron, during whose rule dwarfs succeeded in finishing making their God, a colossal golden statue made of pure gold. Dwarfs were also good fighters and after finishing their God they were left with a lot of unused energy and with no exhaust valve, after all it was time of Peace.

But it wasn't always peaceful on Argalla. At the time of chaos, God of War was supreme ruler over all other Gods. He was strong, empowered from countless battles that raged through Argalla. He had a harem consisting of 100 prettiest women from each race. During Chaos, the God of War got 4 sons, 4 demigods who continued to grow by his side.

It so happened that time of chaos ended. Each of 4 races was left with hugely diminished numbers and they fell back to their encampments. Time of Peace came, and lasted for hundreds of long years. During that time, the power of God of War diminished. He wasn't ruler of the Gods anymore. He started growing old. Realizing that he would never be able to be as a strong as he used to be, God of War decided to step down from the throne in favor of one of his sons. He started paying close attention to events on Argalla to find some task in which his sons could prove their worth. A task from which one of them would arise as the next God of War.

During the years of Piece, Orcs expanded so much that they were running out of land to live on. But they kept expanding nevertheless. They started raiding human settlements and usurping them. They started cutting elven forests and building their own camps on that land. Elves retaliated without second thought. Humans, pacifists that they were, tried to ignore the threat and fortify themselves in cities. But God of Life was not happy with that. He spoke through the prophet, judging them for forfeiting so easily a gift of life he gave them. God of Life cursed them to be unable to find a piece unless they stand tall on the upcoming war. Dwarfs, who finished their God during peace, were growing restless in their underground kingdom. Their prime was reached so they were ready to take part in this new war.

God of War saw new war as a great opportunity to test his sons. He gathered them, ordering each one to go to Argalla and recruit best heroes. With the heroes of their choosing, they were to clash against one another in a tournament from whoever emerges victorious will become the next God of War!

So quick question, are there going to be any female characters who don't look like fantasy hookers.

(this coming from a guy who loves KD pin-ups and anime figures)

OK, first I was excited. Demigods=my daughters will love it after being obsessed with the Percy Jackson series. I'm interested as a tabletop miniatures game.

But then the art. And its over and over again. The treatment of the female characters is just too over the top and too scandalous for me. There's no way I can show this to my daughters as a game. Simply cannot do it.

I think you're missing a real opportunity for tapping a market of young players. I'll watch what happens, but likely just watch unless the art and models can be changed.

Some of the heros look quite nice, got a real eastern MMo/dota vibe to them which I like. Also the minis look petty good, any chance there will be a minis only pledge or a-la-carte, more of a collector/hobbyist than gamer.

Also did the fairy just gain a skirt, or maybe my imagination. ???

Its not your Imagination i posted here for the crew cause they are cool guys. When the realized i had the old out of date image, which the fans stated their concerns with the lack of clothing, they sent me the new one and i updated it. Rest assured they are not aiming for the scant clothing look. as to the minis only pledge i will forward it to the guys and see what they say

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Rolt the mini only pledged should show on the KS preview page located on the bottom of my original post. So they will be there for those that love miniatures.

Thanks Dregon, sorry for the silly questions, I'm looking at this on a crappy tablet which only wants to load half the PDF's/webpages. Kinda annoying.

Uhhh I'm gonna have to call bs on this.

literally every single woman in this game has her boobs and/or ass hanging out

The fairy and elemental models don't even pretend to be wearing any sort of clothing whatsoever.

The "sex sells" angle here is extremely not subtle.

Gotta second this one. I mean, I get it, but the fact that this is all the female models is slightly offputting. Sorry.

I could be wrong be wrong they said they are taking feedback to correct some of the art. I do not work for the company and i am just a fan and was told they are not going for the Slutty character look. The updated art in the Hero Manual is more in line with the current look. Located in the links on the bottom of my first post.

Looks like something up my alley. If the figures are of good quality, this could be pretty cool.

Have they mentioned where they're going to get these figures cast? I see Titan Forge and Panda both mentioned, and they talk about plastic figures. Do either of those companies have experience making plastic figures of the quality they're aspiring towards? Or did I just misread things?

That painted orc girl- are those going to be the base sizes? It looks a bit large.

I'm trying to figure out what exactly I'm looking at with the human paladin. Maybe the actual figure will be a bit easier to comprehend.

Definitely got a bit of Asian inspired design sense going on, which is a plus for me. Reminds me a bit of Dragon's Crown for PS3.

I didn't even realize all 4 factions will be included in the box. Plus all those stretch goals? Not bad!

Price isn't too outrageous for what you get.

I wonder if we'll see any other races as add ons.

Any idea how long it will take to play a game?

Keep us posted- I will more than likely be following this one!

I know titan-forge is pretty goof for the resin cast which they will offer. I am not sure if they are using them for plastics.
the base size coincides with the actual tile boards for the game itself. If you look at the preview rules it will give you a better idea
Paladins Background story is here http://kicktotal.com/demigods-rising/item/13-demigods-rising-2-caleb-the-paladin
More races will come via stretch goals as well.
depending on the size up to two hours can be a pretty big game.

Besides the issues with the minis already addressed, the write up introducing the setting and factions is in need of major revision. The setting sounds rather generic (elves live in forests, dwarves underground and like to work with hammers and anvils, yawn) and the text itself is atrocious.

Why don't companies proof read their work before submitting it to Kickstarter? That is often a deal breaker for me as a backer. If you can't present a sales pitch with proper grammar and coherent sentences you aren't getting my money--no matter how many boobs you plaster on your product.

The text is from their first post about the game. There have been constant revisions since then. I just brought it over to give an idea about the setting;

I've made this suggestion to a significant number of projects and I've yet to see a single one go back and fix their copy. This is a "prerelease" version of the project though, so maybe they'll actually give it a real edit pass before releasing it into the wild.

My mistake. So that text likely isn't going to be used in the campaign? Good. Still bored by the descriptions of the races, but if the copy gets cleaned up before the campaign then I won't hold that against the game makers.

Thanks for the link to the paladin back story. Looking at the render there confirmed my suspicions that the paladin does in fact only have one arm.

That writing though. Ugh. My teacher- sense is tingling like crazy reading it!

No kidding! None of the women are wearing anything resembling real clothing. The orc character is wearing a loincloth and... strategically-placed hair. Really?

And the fluff text... my inner English major is crying.

Is the 3d model of the orc woman who's waving the spinal column around a Hector Moran from KDM fame? It sure looks like it. And are there plans for him to make more of the figures (especially female)? Because if so, I'm in all the way for the models. Hector Moran's figures are amazing and the final sculpt they've produced of her is fabulous. If its not Hector then props to the 3d artist.
