This Is Where the Fish Lives

Here is a Devastator Centurion from the Raptors space marine chapter and is my first completed miniature in almost a year. I tried some OSL (which is something I don't typically do) on the grav cannon and while I'm not completely sold on it, I think it looks passable. I'm not overly fond of the base either, but I think it will do for now. Comments and criticism always welcome. Thanks!

Very well done. I have seen this paint scheme done before by a very skilled painter so my expectations were high before clicking this link. Great work. You pull this off very nicely. Even the basing shows a lot of skill and technique.

Reminds me of Death Guard - very, very nice work. How can you not be happy with that base?

Looks very, very good. My only thought is that it does look a bit unfinished. Battle damage and work on the chest scroll, for sure. Maybe some edge highlights. Nothing over the top, but getting a bit of a highlight on those uppermost edges will make it pop like crazy.

The Raptors paint scheme is executed very well. Nicely done, especially with a year long break in there. Not a fan of the Centurion models, but your painting could almost make me one. Cheers.

Nice glow, I love the hazard stripes as they add a flash of colour to an otherwise boring model. I like the glow particularly because it stands out without being over the top, something that tends to happen a lot on models these days with the advent of airbrushes.

That's one of the only pictures of a Centurion I've seen that didn't make me think, 'Gawd, that's an awful model'. The green scheme works really well with it and your execution's spot-on. I agree the OSL could do with a little oomph but even as is, it's still fine.

That is nice. I like the pragmatic Raptor scheme. And great job with the hazard striped cable. That detail really sets it off.

I couldn't agree more with both of Necroagogo's points. Beautiful work. Can I ask which colours you used for this scheme, please?

Cheers.

Awesome job, one of the best centurions I've seen.... but I have to agree with em_en_oh_pee, I think there is something missing like edge highlights or something.

My recipe for Raptors:
Vallejo Surface Primer Black
Reaper Master Series Olive Shadow (lightly over the whole model, used for the darkest shadows)
RMS Olive Green (technically a highlight but is used as the "base" color)
RMS Worn Olive (highlight for base color)
Vallejo Model Air US Light Grey (extreme highlights; if it's too bright I'll give it a very light coat of RMS Worn Olive to bring brightness down a little)

Thanks mate. I was on the fence with battle damage and decided against it for the time being and I couldn't decide what to write on the scroll so I just left it blank. Now as far as edge highlights, I try to stay away from them to avoid the "cartoon look" that they tend to give. These model has them, but I made them very subtle; they are most prominent on the hands and feet.

Thanks man! Now I do love a nice OT thread, but I actually paint models from time to time!

Thank you for the kind words everyone.

I agree that heavy-handed edge highlights look bad. I call it the Tron look. I just meant a light dusting of color to pick up the edges, which will really make it pop.

Love the paint job, lovely and crisp, base is fine.

Unfortunately the GW Centurion Model stinks, it has no dynamism, it simple doesn't work anatomically. I've always thought Terminators were Anatomically pushing it but the Centurion just makes me want to scream "NO".

Honestly paint Job is excellent, you did the absolute best with the model GW provided.

Thanks mate, I really appreciate this. Your finished scheme is pretty much exactly what I have had in my head for a forthcoming CSM project of mine.

Cheers.
