Someone I played with back in my teens had a marine force ge painted with a candy ink type blend that was a baby/powder blue.

He then hit them with a really high gloss varnish so they almost shone and called them the squeeky clean marines.

Very different and to me very cool.

I wish I was brave enough to go for a bright colour army but I always end up black!

Great work.

Mixing paint into medium or varnish isnt 'candy'. Its a glaze. (very similar idea - only actual candy colours are a billion times better for it)

Candy specifically refers to transparent dyes suspended in a clear coat.

The pigments in your washes, inks, paints etc are not dyes, (theyre pigments). A 'real' candy paint will remain see through no matter how many layers you put on. While any pigmented paints are only semi transparent at best and eventually become opaque with enough layers. This means you cant build up the depth of colour required for most colours unless you have an actual dye based paint.

Theyre usualy not cheap :( and are suspended in high gloss lacquer, although I believe you can get concentrated dyes to mix it yourself. Its popular in custom car and motorcycle paint work as it truely is the most vivid colours available when used correctly.

A one armed space marine on a square base is so unsettlingly uncanny valley. Just doesn't quite look right!

I approve of candy coating marines though

I wonder if they are peppermint flavour to the 'nids?

lol. its just a test scheme dude. He does have another arm and will eventually sit on a round base. I also should have specified that i used a transparent ink. yeah i know its not a genuine candy coat but its a cheaper way of getting a similar effect.
