This is an OOP metal Space Marine Captain that was forged in 1990. It took more than ten hours from start to finish to complete. The Crimson Fist insignia is a Decal. Please tell me what you think!

Can you talk me through your Airbrush Technique, I am about to invest in one (IAWATA) and I'm impressed by what you have done as it's crisp and clean!
Did you air brush base coat, and then paint detail on?
Kudos on the OOP Model, I like that one...Did you know there is a Rare version of that Model with the Skull on his Chest plate is actually a Mailed Fist?
This is the only picture I can find, but it was a Imperial Fist / Crimson Fist release.
Pity you didn't have that version it would have looked Epic.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest! |

I actually think I have the imperial fist version of that in my Bits Box. How rare is it?

Pretty damn rare....Is it clean? If not nuke it in Nitromors.
I saw one go on Ebay for £40 a month or so back.
I'm not sure if it was limited edition or Games day, or just rare.
This is the old Catalogue Page...The original model is Captain with Terminator Honours. But the one with an Imperial Fist in his Chest Rig doesn't feature.
I have the Veteran Captain on the bottom right, He is one on my Horus Heresy Iron Hand Commanders.
Badly painted one went for £20.

This is the other one i love and sells for a high price.

You've got great technique man, but the airbrushis not atomising properly. As such, you're ending up with a bad spray pattern. I'd suggest thinning your paints a bit more, that should provide you with a nicer blend. Unless the splotchiness was what you were aiming for, in which case, my mistake! Otherwise, the model is crisp!

The guys using airbrushes near me all use this stuff...
Vallejo Model Air
They all say it can be used neat as they are quite thin, or you can add the Vallejo Thinner as well to make it much easier to put fine coats on.

The Captain with the Imperial/Crimson Fist insignia dates back to shortly before 3rd Edition. GW had released an Imperial Fists army box (named 'Supremacy Force') set that contained 2nd Edition miniatures, and Imperial Fist specific shoulder pads etc. The Captain was an existing figure that underwent a minor resculpt for the set.
I think that this force and the Captain featured in the first WD battle report for 3rd Edition
Edit; this is the boxed set

Sorry for the late reply guys. I believe the finish looks grainy partly because of the techniques I used to paint him. Here is a step by step.
Base coat of "Liquitex Carbon Black acrylic ink". This stuff is fricking amazing.
Airbrushed coat of Kantor Blue thinned with Liquitex Airbrush Medium
Dry brushed with Etherium Blue. I think this is what created the "grainy" look. Personally I like it and think it gives the model some depth.
Airbrushed with Drakenof Nightshade
Airbrushed with Guilliman Blue
The boltgun is Boltgun Metal dry brushed with Necron Compound and then washed with Badab Black.
The other silver parts were painted with Boltgun Metal, washed with Badab Black and then highlighted with Chainmail.
The red is Mephiston Red dry brushed with Blood Red and then shaded with Carroburg Crimson.
The gold is Burnished Gold washed with Delvan Mud and then highlighted with more Burnished Gold.
The purity seal and shoulder insignia are Bleached Bone shaded with Seraphim Sepia and highlighted with again with Bleached Bone
The holster is Calthan Brown washed with Delvan Mud and highlighted again with Calthan Brown
The black is Chaos Black
The model was then given a coat of Vallejo Matte Varnish thinned with Liquitex Airbrush Medium
The shiny parts were painted with 'Ardcoat
That limited edition model is sweet by the way. I only paid about 7 USD for this guy on eBay, he was even bare metal and very clean. I saw the rare on eBay for around 25 USD, now im kicking myself in the ass for not buying it. I hope that answers all your questions!
P.S. I use an Iwata HP-BH airbrush and I love it.

Looks good for a first go at airbrushing. Unfortunately, the chalkiness of the drybrushing really lets it down. Work on using your airbrush to give the models shadows and highlights, as that will give the illusion of depth.
I would advise you to avoid drybrushing where ever you can. Like any technique there is, it has it's place, which is generally areas with high texture (animal fur/pelts, expanded metal decking, dirt/rocks, and things like that).
You seem to have a pretty firm bead on using the airbrush so keep up the good work!
