Subject: GW Memphis to stock fw and bl items starting April 7th.

Not sure if this was covered, but as many might know the GW Memphis location closed it's production side (everything is made in uk) a while back, and the huge open area is set up for forgeworld and black library stuff. GW stores received new computer and register programs this week which are being installed in March. Fw and bl will merge with GW website, and everything will be ordered through GW main site. At least we will save time and shipping costs by having it go to a local store!

I hope this is true. I'd love to be able to order small quantities of FW goods and not have to worry about the shipping and VAT fees.
Has the Memphis location been a storage warehouse since production ceased or is this an entirely new direction for that site?

If this gets rid of the increased shipping costs and they pass the savings onto the customers instead of raising prices, this will be great for US customers.

It's true. Memphis shut down and cleared it's production area about a year ago (letting the UK location make everything), and revamped it into a stock werehouse. Everything is ordered in mass amounts, and arriving in March. The werehouse staff will getting everything set up in March. I was at 2 GW locations, and was told by 2 GW managers (as they were updating their software/shopping cart/etc, this WAS happening.
This also means FW is mainstream now with GW models, no more treating FW models/players as red headed step children! (Rejoice my DKOK!).

I'm just saying the models. I used DKOK as reg guard for example. Tried a DKOK siege list and owned everyone. Where's the fun in that?

Given that FW stuff is pretty much priced on a par with regular GW stuff for us in Aust, this can't be a good change.

This will be nice. It will also be nice if the give FW products a standard price for us non- UK customers so we don't have to deal with price fluctuations constantly.

Surprised GW just didn't get rid of the property to save costs in light of their stock issues. The entire reason Memphis was shut down was to hide their problems.

holy gak your right.

I buy FW stuff mostly right now because it's close enough in price to the plastic kits, i'd rather just get the better modles. If they "localize" the prices i'm going to be done with GW once and for all. I just can't justify it anymore when their are better games the cost less.

I'm just going to say that describing it as "rounding up" on GW's part will be a understatement.

GWs reasons in the past have been 'higher minimum wage' and 'the exchange rate fluctuates too much so we use historical exchange rates' but there is literally no good reason, GW are just greedy.

It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

At current FX rates the knight is £80 in Aus and £90 in Canada, and £85 in the UK, so, ye... Nice selective data picking. All of them are within the range of picking a round number rather than an exact exchange and minor tax differences.
The problem with the exchange rates is that for whatever reason GW don't change their prices, but then neither do most companies, but most companies don't have the same product on sale for so many years.

I don't think it dose. I would believe FW going plastic rather than that. It seems to me that most of that roumor is down to people not understanding how resin casting works. About once a month Nafka posts on Faite some "proof" someone has because they get a FW mini with slightly different resin colouring. I don't think that GW would be getting rid of FC only for FW to take it up. I am sure it was a stopgap between metal and plastic and nothing more.

I'd be cautiously optimistic about this. I'd love to see US based FW shipping, although I too would be concerned they'd decide to bake in the VAT cost to the US price ("hey, they're paying it now, right?")

All we have gotten over the past 15 years is something swinging from "always ask" to now "it's a good idea if you ask even though it's for 40k" from a subsidiary. They had the chance with 3 different editions (4th, 5th, and 6th) to clarify it in black and white during the era of Imperial Armour books and yet have chosen multiple times not to for whatever reason. Every argument about this in every game store and on every forum could have been prevented with a single paragraph in the rulebook. Not that it matters anyways now with Apocalypse at 1500pts that is 40k currently...

Memphis is stocking it? I hadn't heard that. I suppose that makes sense. Nottingham will save some money shipping bulk to Memphis instead of making many more smaller shipments to the entire US.

How so? I was under the impression that Forgeworld charged for shipping until you reached a lofty amount at which point you'd get the only bulk discount possible. It's not like they were shipping individual Hurons across the pond for free. I'm curious to see if they'll be charging shipping at all if you order in the store. If the goal is to get FW more mainstream and (more importantly selling more) then making it as close as possible to ordering a normal plastic or blister should be the goal.

He's referring to the idea of making it so that you just order directly from FW with the store terminal(which always equates to free shipping for in-store pick up) would be more costly for GW than making bulk shipments of items to Memphis at the start of each week/month(or just packing the items in with the regular shipments) and then having Memphis being a hub for distribution.

You seem to have misread my post, I was referring to any GW store ordering FW, not stocking it (and thus, as mikhaila asks, maybe independent stores too?).
