Hi. I've done a Chaos codex revision but I wanted to try making a fluff 'dex that I think will be much easier to use than a codex revision. But the whole point is to make this both easy to use and fair to use. I can't do that on my own though I think I've made a good start. A lot of these designs are my originals but not all. Feedback is wanted and welcome. Here's what I have so far as it is far from completion. And feel free to post your own ideas too!

HQ
Eliphas the Inheritor 130

Eliphas the Inheritor WS7 BS5 S4 T4 W3 I5 A3 Ld10 Sv3+

Special Rules: Champion of Chaos, Crusader, Furious Charge, Mark of Khorne, Veterans of the Long War, Zealot, Fearless, Independent Character

Inheritor: When Eliphas kills an opponent's character instead of rolling on the Chaos Boon table you may roll a D6 on the Inheritor table. If you roll a result you previously rolled on the Inheritor table nothing happens.

Inheritor Table

2: Sigil of the Crusader: Eliphas’s attack characteristic is increased by one
3: Rageful Aura: Eliphas and his unit have the Hatred (Universal) special rule

If a unit of Combat Servitors rally, then they must take the Rally test before making a Berserk Mindlock test.

I assume the berzerker surgeon gives the squad psycho-surgery?

Doesn't 'butchers nails' refer to the spikes in their brains? doesn't seem like a good name for a weapon.

Overall some good ideas though.

Sure thing.

Yeah I should list that.

I've heard a lot about Butcher's nails and ideas for what they do but I always assumed that they were something like sharp brass knuckles.

Alright I can re-work that then. Perhaps +1 Toughness? But with FNP (6+) that might be a bit OP unless it's priced kind of high.

Butcher's Nails is something pretty baseline fluffwise for the Eaters.

Just assume the Nails is what gives them WS5.

why have heavy chainsword when they have axes already? If anything, drop the cost on chain axes, and maybe give the champion a USR to ignore unwieldy on power axes only?

Also, how about next on the list we put in rules for CM level lords, and make the dark apostle not terrible. 2am for me, so bedtime!

I suppose I could do that. But against most armies AP 4 is decent. Also I think that the rule to ignore unwieldy should be something for a Unique HQ not a minor champion.

What are CM level lords? I'm guessing you mean Chaos Lords equal to Chapter Masters? As for the Dark Apostle I could come up with something for him. Certainly lower his price.

The AP4 thing is just weird. It mostly boosts the berzerkers abilities against units that are already not very durable in cc. Berzerkers don't really need any additional help in that area. My issues with berzerkers has been sending them against units that aren't just fodder. If you throw them at tacticals you are really relying on that first round of combat with charge bonuses. If that round doesn't go very well you're stuck in combat for awhile and without much bonus over the tacticals. Now, you've given them base 2 attacks which goes a long way to remedying this imo. I would love an option for chain axes but ap3 is too powerful and ap4 doesn't really help. Maybe something like worsen armor save by 1? That would be an option that would useful vs all armies (instead of just half the armies like ap4) but im not sure on points cost.

I like the surgeon as an option but a 6+ fnp seems like a pretty hail mary option to me. Its one of those options that either be worth its points or not and thus always taken or never taken.

We need enemies is pretty fluffy but I feel it hurts the unit more than it seems at first. They will often be running in odd directions, out of cover, etc. Perhaps limit it somehow such as only if enemy unit is in 18" or if they fail a test or something. Also if you wanted to work the 'Butcher's Nails' phrase in this would be the place to do it since they are the brain implants that make the zerks go zerker.

One addtional point is that they may be undercosted but you'd have to test em out. We're talking 5 WS5 S6 attacks on the charge per dude. That is absolutely brutal for 20 points.

As for the Dark the apostle he's pretty cheap for an HQ already I think his support abilities just need to be a bit better.

Thats my 2c

Agreed. AP 4 is not good enough against space marines and others like them. But something that makes saves worse seems a little OP as well.

True. If you have any ideas to perhaps make the surgeon a better option I'm all ears but for the moment he is there to help address the longevity issues that often pop up with Khorne.

Perhaps. Yes I would have to run some tests.

Yes that would be a little more fun. perhaps 12" though? When you consider that on the normal Dawn of War table set-up that there is only 24" apart 18" is not that large.

I suppose but there is little we can do fluff wise. I do have a power "Incite Riot" I came up with.

Incite Riot: If at the beginning of the fight sub-phase this Dark Apostle is in a Cultist Squad and they are locked in combat The Cultist Squad to riot. All Cultists receive an additional attack. At the end of the fight sub-phase the Cultist Squad must take a number of S2 AP- hits equal to the amount of wounds dealt by the Cultist Squad.

S=5 is a bit much for the Khorne Zerks. By that logic Nobz should also be just as good. A average Nob could take a average Zerker most days

Gamewise, certainly, a Nob takes a Zerker.

Fluffwise, that is extremely debatable and definitely not something you should put forward as some kind of objective fact.

Also, Khârn is S5.

in 3.5 Ed book Kharn had a 2+ FnP 4+, Eternal Warrior, Gorechild, talisman of burning blood( reroll on the blood frenzy" simili-fleet"), Khorne's rage(+D3 A), 4 Wounds and a Collar( Blessing of the BG).

...For 180pts.

So for 200+pts you can give him EW and FnP i think.

Also the we need ennemies rule for zerkers is kinda, not working...

They have to run, they can run and shoot..., but then they can't assault...

So i think its best to make them move towards the closest ennemy unit, and assault if they can ennemy units in a 12"radius.
