this model is very much a work in progress, it is probably 95% built, and has only had it's 1st coat of colour on it.

Is it a converted piece?

Cool, I thought it was a Leviathan at first.

It is kind of converted, from my scratchbuilt baneblade type tank I made previously, along with other bits from my bits box.. It's mostly card and bits of various tank models I had, both 40K and others.

It looks so small, but then I started noticing bits and that is really big! Really want to see it finished.

the tracks are 1:25 scale leopard 2 tank tracks, and they fit a plastic baneblade kit. The 2 small turrets on the left & right at the front are from a plastic baneblade, the middle an old hellhound. It will take me a while to get painted...

Ive done some work on the back, and have put a single ork boy in the shot for scale purposes. If it was daytime, the paint would show up better.

having had a break from trying to get this machine finished, I thought I'd try an experimental job on painting rust. Opinions would very much be appreciated folks.

The rust itself looks good but it's still too shiny. Matte it down somehow and that should do the trick.

how do I go about making it less shiny then?

It could be the lighting, im not sure. Washing metal with badab black (nulin oil?) Will sometimes work to tone down the shine.

the flash on the camera is adding the shiney, and it does look better in natural light. Due to a lack of money, I can only use the paints I have, most of which are old citadel ones, and a couple of acrylic paints that aren't

Cool, the other option is to use a grey and do a nmm paint lightly over the metal, but if it looks good in person, leave it as is

Agrax earthshade helps for rusty-oily surfaces too. Any type of dark brown wash is pure, liquid skill for painting orks.

Great work for what looks like mostly a scratch built. That rust came out pretty good, I am experimenting with some really dirty rusty kits now on a few conversions I am doing, mind sharing your rust process?

I really can't say that Im a good painter, and I do have a hard time of it when doing so, As to the rust, I stippled some Fiery Orange all over 1st, then some brown on top of that ( it's a mix of 2 different ones due to the small amount in either's containter that I mixed together), with a top layer of stippled dark silver - a mix of some cheapo black acrylic I bought somewhere, and some plasti-kote water based enamel silver paint. Personally, I think it's pure bloody luck more than anything that it has turned out as well as it has.

I generally don't have any money to go and buy new kits of any kind, so I just end up recycling models and bits of stuff I've had stashed away - as it is, I based it on the scratchbuilt baneblade I made, and just orkyfied it some..

Im now classing this as finished, mostly coz I don't think that I'll be able to add any more to it and it will still look good

Racing stripe is a great touch. If red makes it go faster, so should a racing stripe.

the next thing I'll be doing is getting the gargant finished. I just feel there are way too many titans roaming about that need a right royal orky kicking
