Hello everyone,
Yesterday i ordered a box of dark elf corsairs and i wanted to do something with a theme on the bases for a first time. So i figured that the corsairs probably travel allot by boats etc so why not a boat/dock theme for the bases. I just used old sprues and cut them to pieces, used a hobbyknife to cute some stripes into it and then painted/washed it. Here is the result. C&C is always welcome

Dont make them all one piece. Make a few have planks with sections so it looks less like a kit kat otherwise it looks awesome. Nice job.

i was thinking trying to "fill" up the open spaces with sprue parts and maybe add some arrows sticking out as if my units where getting shot at. I just have to figure out how to make arrows.

If you put the sprue parts together alternately as regards the slope of the sides, you can make a deck that has thin gaps and still looks like wood.
Like this... /\ \/ /\ \/
Construct the deck on a long section made of several sprues cemented tightly together, to look like a bigger piece of wood.
Two long sections I mean, to look like the support beams.
Vertical columns or piles can be constructed using more sprue.

Much better!
You can use a knife to score lines in the sprue to create a gain effect. Just do multiple strokes and try to get wider slits than just blade width

those are some cool looking bases. Perhaps i should try a green wash on the brown to see if i can get a more sea-ish result.
