Hello everyone,

I recently started painting warhammer 40k and i first started of with daemons. The first few matched i played where 500 points and to say the least didn't go so well for my daemons. Daemons felt a bit random which i like from time to time but having half your army dead by the warpstorm after the first turn wasn't really the way to get into the game for me :p. So i decided upon necrons for a bit of twist and a 2nd army to practice against. I really like the feel from the necrons and the fact that most boxes can be turned into two types of units which means lots of spare parts and more fun experiments.

Today i went to the store to pick up the following:
- The necron battleforce containing:
20 Necron warriors
5 Canotep bases
5 immortals/deathmarks
1 Ghost ark/doomsday ark
- Annihilition barge and necron lord.

Since i'm not a very experienced painted i went to youtube for some instruction and found some that look easy and good enough for me to learn from and maybe even give my own twist too. I started of small and painted the canotep scarabs first to test out the painting scheme. They are currently basecoated with a 1/1 mix of leadbelcher and abbadon black and washed with null oil. Hopefully i can use this blog to document my process of becoming a better painter and give the readers something fun to read about. Comments and suggestions are always welcome ofcourse

Note: i will be adding a group picture to the original post that i will update as my army grows.

And here are the scarabs all ready for play. I haven't picked up a kit for basing yet and i will probably do that either i get time for it or once all the necrons are done so i could calculate how much i would need.

Not bad but if you plan to play in gw if/when they let you or tournaments you would fail to meet the 3 colors on the model minimum requirement

i did not know of that rule, thank you for the heads up. I did use more then three colors though. The bottom sides are still black/metal and the rocks on the base i painted grey. This is not very visable on the picture though

Ok fair enough just didnt look it.

Any tournament that says you have to be a painted force. Tend to follow the rule of:
3 colours on the model
Amd based in one way or another (some say just painted is fine others say decorated)
GW if your local store allow games during open hours (extremely rare) they use the base has to be decorated.

Big official tournaments follow full painted amd decorated bases

Small update. Today i started on my warrior. Decided to paint them first without their arms since their guns are rather large en might block the chest to much for paint decently. Used the same basecoating as on the scarabs.

update: Almost finished two necron warriors. Still have to highlight the shoulder pads with a different colour red and the tubing still needs a highlight and glaze. Overall i'm beginning to like how they are coming out for a beginner in painting Note: i discovered necron compound and loving it

I got a bit sidetracked and bought myself a spider. I am still in the process of putting on the greens before i start at the back part of the body. Also i might make the upper armor red like the shoulder pads of my warriors. (note: once i uploaded the picture i saw some places that i need to patch up with abadon black)

I remember painting up my Necron army (years ago), the best bit was I could just dry brush everything,
still took me ages though, probably because I wanted to convert every single warrior into a different pose.

Nice work so far, looking forward to seeing the rest .

Sir, the cannon is almost assembled ! Since i reached the halfway mark with my warriors and immortals i decided to start on my annihilation barge. I have assembled it partly to make atleast the basecoat easier. I will keep you guys posted and happy holidays.

It has been a productive christmas thus far *cough* not *cough*. Never the less i once i started basecoating the drivers for the barge i decided to basecoat the overlord aswell. One thing led to another and now the overlord and drivers are done (except for the drivers arms) . I hope you guys like it.

Nice blog!
For the guy above with the green ball type things, you could see if you can do something like this: http://www.necrotales.com/necroTutorials/tut_gemstonesf.php
Will make them look kind of look like transparent orbs if you can pull it off Not sure I could, but its worth a shot if you think that effect could work xD

update for the past few weeks can be found in the original post. I really just painted more warriors and a couple of immortals. Bought a box of lichguards because well i think they look cool and a box of deathmarks. I also primed my ghost ark and started painting on it but not allot of progress yet. Have a good one

So i started on something brand new (for me atleast). The ghost ark is primed and ready for painting so i started on that one. I had to learn edge hilighting for this one and i seemed to have failed on some parts but other parts went well. Also from the shadows comes my first deathmark Comments, tip and feedback are always welcome !

i have finally had the guts to try and paint finecast and sadly i hate it from the moment i had it primed. But never the less i will show you guys what i made of it. I bought a anrakyr the traveler but instead of going blue i decided that red was the way to go for my army. Simply painting everything that was blue red didn't feel right to me so here is the result. Sadly i never painted finecast and i think this model was a bad cast. The markings where bad and certain parts didn't really seem to be correctly made. Also the primer went on smooth on some parts but very gritty on other parts which made me sad from the moment i started painting it.
