Poll
With Iron Hands, do you take the stormwing or do you take the individual models
1. Take the individual models, gain "It Will Not Die"
2. Take the formation, gain strafing run, one reserve roll for all 3, any C:SM models, no HS/FA slots.

Assuming the primary detachment is Iron Hands, which would you pick? The relevant chapter tactic for iron hands grants vehicles and characters the "It will not die" special rule, which allows the model to regain a wound previously lost in battle on the player's turn with a die roll of 5+. On the other hand, the formation including the three fliers allows all 3 fliers to come in on a single reserve roll (roll once for all three instead of rolling 3 total for one in each one). In addition to this, while at least one of the storm talons are alive, the stormraven (casual interpretation incoming) gets +1BS when shooting at ground targets (no fliers or skimmers). It also, as a formation, does not take up any HS or FA slots.

The choice:

1. Take 1 Stormraven in HS and 2 Stormtalons in 2 FA slots in an Iron Hands army.
-Have one stormtalon come in the same turn the storm raven, have the other stormtalon roll seperately
-All three fliers get the "It will not die"
-Takes up 2 FA and 1 HS
-Can only carry models with CT "iron hands"

2. Take the Stormwing formation
-Have both stormtalons come in the same turn as the storm raven
-As long as at least one of the stormtalons are alive, the stormraven gets +1BS when shooting at non-fliers/skimmers
-Can carry models from C:SM regardless of CT
-Takes up no slots
-Does not benefit from Iron Hands CT

Of course it wouldn't be a tactic thread if you just answered the poll, so lets start discussing!

edit: made the thread less about me, more about the decision in general

Resin Printer (minaitures) is a 4K printer with one of the largest build volumes available for a resin printer (192mm x 120mm x 245mm) with an amazing .01mm resolution! This professional printer is one of the best resin printers on the market!

FDM Printer (terrain) also has one of the largest build volumes available for an FDM printer (400mm x 400mm x 450mm) and has an amazing ,05mm build accuracy.

My personal experience is that IWND doesnt work. YMMV.

Take the Wing if you have to. Else, take the single units. Slot thunderfires in your other two heavy slots, AT in the form of Melta Command Squads or Sternguard w/ Combis or LotD in Elite, etc. Fast is... Fast. Maybe take a squadron of Typhoon Speeders or a double flamer Assault pod.

Elaboration: IWND is good. Also, the 3 fliers arriving on one roll is not good.

IWND is not going to come up very often for storm talons but its awesome for the storm ravens.

Most of the storm ravens shots are twinlinked so all you are really gaining is pinning against ground targets....meh

I would take the raven in HS and the talons as FA. I play iron hand so I like the idea of more durable vehicles anyway (I usually run a techmarine in my raven to help with that). The bonus from the formation doesn't seem to be to great, becasue as Leth said, most of the shots are twinlinked anyway, so +1 BS isn't too much and I wouldn't want to rely on a single role for that much of my reserves, if it goes bad than you're in a lot of trouble

Agreed. If you dont play IH tactics, then I would say the formation is generally better. All arriving on one reserve roll is, I find, far better than not doing so as the chances to get a lot of damage and overload enemy AA is much higher, though there is definitely a need to manipulate your reserves rolls here for maximum benefit (but the same is really true of having them come in separately). Also, there is no rule that says the formation has to stick together so once they are on the board they can go anywhere the like.
