I actually really liked the original head I enjoyed the earthy red in the recesses. Although the new skin tone is just as nice. the fades and gradients look really good

Ok, now that is funny.

Ironically, this is the color similar to the carapace on my own nids...I tried to find something that was a mix of "crab shell" and "cockroach chitin".

Truly "bug like". Ewww....

Oh god that looks soooo cool!

The armour looks sooo nice! I didnt get chance to comment before you applied the pigments but I really enjoyed the first coat down on the plating. The red was nice and vibrant with plenty of richness and just enough colour transition

Secondly the wings look awesome, the fading is fantastic. are you planning on doing more work to the membranes in the wings? if so, what? and why?

Loving the pigments, but can i ask how you applied them? by pigments I assume you are meaning like powders?

In general i am loving the paint job so far. The airbrushing looks fantastic, would have loved to see this project as a video log, I would love to watch you work so I could steal your skills

Thanks for the awesome comment
With regards to the plating there was no pigments added there. I only added dark earth pigment to the main body to give it a more a natural and dirty look.i followed that up by adding a highlight of red to the most exposed bumps on rib cage and also to the blade thing underneath. I did this because I wanted to create the effect of a unified body and not separate parts of carapace and body. I have also done some more work on the wings but nothing to crazy - I added violet pigment to where the wing membranes meet the fingers to create greater depth and contrast.

Im using secret weapon pigments and they are powders. I apply them with soft flat tipped brush similar to a stippling brush but with longer bristles , blow off excess and remove excess from brush and then blend the remaining pigment on the model with the cleaned brush . final step is to seal the the pigment in using satin varnish.

I wish I could make vlogs but I don't posses a camera at the moment .
Thanks again
and as always C+C welcome

yeh i noticed the red on the rib cage, but wasn't sure if it was a reflection or some light, but yeh i like it I think its a great idea to tie the carapace to the body, gives it a more organic feel.
ahh sweet, i need some flat brushes then! I have only just started using powders on my models. Pastels were my favourite medium in school and probably are still in my top 3, i should definitely use them more

Btw, not sure if your aware, but what i did for powders was buy a £3 pastel set from amazon and crushed it up (some people blend), its a very good way to get them cheaply just ive seen some damn expensive powders out there!

Also, why satin varnish? people always use satin it seems? yeh I have matte varnish. does that make a difference?

Also, could you give me some tips on how you create such nice transitions on your wings etc? im about to do my first model where i need transitions from blue to purple, and both to white, but ive only really done flat colours with my airbrush before.

Finally! more PICS! PLOX keep me updated, dont worry bout none of dees uther cats

Looking really really sick Shadow the wings look amazing from the aerial shot. Plenty of colour variation across each membrane and the violet pigment used seemed to have given the edges a nice dark definition.

Heads coming along nicely too. whats left on the to-do list? and any plans for the base?
