Basically the new Dread Saurian model is pathetic, in my opinion. Trish Carden hardly captured the badass creature shown in Monstrous Arcanum. They continually produce Lizardmen models that are horizontal in presentation. I'm aware dinosaurs were primarily quadrapeds and thus the models reflect this, but look at how awesome the model looks in Monstrous Arcanum, positioned straight up, scanning the horizon for its next great clash to defend its Slann lords:

Then we have the actual model, which is really generic and just slapped with some heraldry which looks like an afterthought to make it look like Lizardmen would use it:

I don't really know of a lot of other companies who produce dinosaurs that are somewhat to scale with 28mm, and who can represent the DS adequately in terms of its overbearingly monstrous appearance shown in MA. I don't care if the model you show me has heraldry or not, I can convert it with tons of extra LM bits I have. All I care about in particular is that the monster isn't overly-horizontal in design, if that makes sense. I don't want an elongated model, preferably something modeled vertical in stance.

Thanks in advance, appreciate any help.

I'm not sure you want them to scale with 28mm. You want of similar size to the dread saurian. Which I'm estimating is quite a bit larger than a T-Rex and you're looking for something else.

Basically I just wanted something that is a kit that needs assembly (so not Schleich dinosaurs), and that fits with 28 - 32mm range style stuff in that the level of detail sort of matches and the proportions look decent with skinks possibly riding it. I know it's probably a tough description but that's why I asked here in case some LM players have already been using proxies before the official model.

Thanka for the advice.

While it's not a unit that has rules for it any more, you could totally use it as an Anacondon. If you really don't feel like calling the the Dread Saurian. Honestly, before I knew it was called the 'Dread Saurian', I thought they were bringing back the Anacondon, or the Thunderlizard.

boy that's from a long time ago. Obviously a heavily converted model, but they do look similar.

As for a replacement for the Dread Saurian itself, I don't know. I will keep my eyes peeled, though.

That model is really cool, the weapon is just superb.

I'm not really sure as to why you have such a beef with the model?

From the art you posted, it's pretty clear that the Dread Saurian is actually a quadruped. The way it is sitting looks really similar to how a dog sits at attention...just a hell of a lot bigger than a dog.

In regards to the converted model that plusARGON posted..."heavily converted" is an understatement. That was one of the GW Studio team's "Engine of the Gods" conversion for the Lustria campaign and it was featured in White Dwarf around that time.

He used a Kroot Greater Knarloc for the main body, the tail is from the metal Carnosaur, the head is the metal Carnosaur head sawed in half and then fit in place with sculpting work to blend it in and the horns on top were sculpted as well.
The ropes holding things down was sculpted.
The actual Engine of the Gods and the platform it was seated upon was cut from foam and then the Lizardmen Glyphs from the Saurus Warrior boxed set was used at each corner and on the neck to add some detailing.

All the glyphs/inscriptions on the Engine of the Gods were handcut/etched as well.

I find myself agreeing with mr UFO on this matter, I quite like the model, and well as pointed out the one show as an alternativ was HEAVILy converted. But yes, it could do with a sligthly more standing tall pose really

THIS.

The pose of the DS in the artwork looks more like a dog asking for a reward than a monster. Meanwhile the actual model looks violent and has amazing hair.

U mad, OP?
