Here is the next model that I've done that I'm willing to share with the world, a Deathwing Sergeant from the Dark Vegeance box.

As with the last piece I put on here, I'm open to all critique, and remember I've only been at this since February.

Starting to get better with the closer detail work but still not very crisp . I'm fairly happy with the final look and even managed to make homemade grass

Looking good! Honestly, I'd just start using washes to blend colors together. Everything will look a lot smoother once you do.

not bad, try doing really thin coats on cloth but gradually adding in the lighter colour, painting less and less into the recess and it will be a much smoother contrast, the edge highlighting is a bit thick and contrasting at the moment. Good work so far though

Yeah go easier on the highlights.. Use really small amouts and just kiss the edges with the brush. Build it up rather than just laying down a line

another tip for edge highlighting is to use the bristles on the brush perpendicularly, so you are painting with the side of the brush onto the edges, try to be really gentle with your touch and it will leave a much smaller amount on the top. The bone armour looks pretty good though. Washes are most certainly your friend too.

I really like it! My only addition (personally, of course) would be a sepia wash to the recesses of the bone armour. I think this would really compliment your level of highlighting by adding an extra dimension. Up to you though of course!

I've started to do that more, it takes a lot of getting used to though. Sometimes I think I've done a really thin line, then I look at it after and it looks ridiculously thick

I did do a Sepia wash over the armour, it's not shown up as well on the photo, i'll see if I can get a better photo.

Yeah. Like the other guy said, use the brush at 90 degrees to the edge. Its definately worth buying a 4/0 brush for highlights. I only use artist brushes so im not 100% but I believe a gw fine detail brush is similar to a 1/0, not nearly fine enough. Also, I find that if my highlight is too thick.. Just use the detail brush with the base colour to tidy it up.. Seems too simple but it works for me

I'm currently using a 2/0 brush. Picked up a Citadel fine detail brush a few weeks ago and immediately realised it wasn't fine enough.

Definately worth investing in a 4/0, and reserving it purely for highlights and tiny details like eyes. I use no bigger than a 2/0 for general painting everything after base layers. Its a lot more painstaking but im a perfectionist so I take as long as I take.
