I have a Valkyrie with the rear hatch modeled open. I want to model storm troopers getting ready to rope out of the back. The rope itself is easy enough but I want to know if anyone has done this before and what models they used. I'm fine with using basic cadians. I have enough sheathed/armless lasguns to model them slung on their backs. The biggest issue is the arms. I'll be posting reference pictures and progress here.

First you need to decide if they'll be repelling face first or feet first.

My main focus was modeling troopers preparing to rope in. This isn't going to be a display piece, but something for tabletop, so I need to make it work for both hovering and flying modes.

I was thinking having someone sitting on the ramp, ready to go like the Ranger here, still in the helicopter...

or

Having someone leaning out, holding onto the rope.

Either way will be realistic when it comes to the Valkyrie hovering or flying. If I was doing something just to model, I would have the guys in the process of roping in.

You can try using Elysian models. They have a right arm bit throwing a grenade that you can dremel carefully and use the arm as holding a rope. They have a few leg poses to use as the guys standing outside the hull. Also they have a set of sitting Elysians. The models are a little expensive but may suit what you are trying to model.

Not sure if it helps, but the SM Land Speeder Storm has a bunch of scouts hanging out of an their open topped transport. You may be able to poach some bits from them.

That's a good idea!

Perfect! Didn't even think of these guys. I'd love to do Elysians but that's a bit to have just hanging out the back.

For reference of where everything is going, here are pictures of my nearly finished Valkyrie. I bought the Land Speeder Storm's scouts off ebay so they should be here next week. I'll post more pictures after I model them. Luckily the HB's are on swivels so I can have one still out...maybe I'll model a pivoting HB under the chin like an Apache...

You could attach the ropes, one just outside each side door, then line the troops up either side just off their seats facing the doors. the two soldiers at either door you could model one arm on the rope in a ready stance, so that would mean only two guys to really model with any significance.
The ropes need to bee away from the deck if you go from the back, so I'm not sure where you'd attach ropes unless off the tail booms.

Ought to be able to use Cadians, or even the new Storm Troopers.

Looking forward to seeing progress! Subscribed.

Just to add if you are still looking to have a few troopers sitting on the ramp, these legs could come in handy: http://victoriaminiatures.highwire.com/product/conscript-legs-seated-x2

Those are the legs I am looking for. Hopefully the Scouts I picked up will work, but if not I may have to go here.

This is actually one of my favorite Elysian bits off of FW. While it's not worth it for me to order it now, it's something that fits my theme perfectly.

I did a little test and the ramp is in fact in the way. It's just longer than I envisioned. As you can see, the ramp of the Chinook is much shorter than the Valkyries. It works here, but not on the model. Thanks for the subscribe! Just note that my imagination and creativity always outclass my artistic skills

I've decided to go in this direction, with crew chief(s) sitting or kneeling at the back, depending on how the legs go. I think a tripod-mounted HB would be a cool tail gun but that will be for next time.
