I'm looking at each of these like little dioramas. Most Giant Rat units don't seem... Right. To me. No offense to anyone but they always seem to be missing something, look too clean and uniform all in a nice little line. So I'm trying a different approach.

I'm re-writing the old Hell Pit rules (slowly) in another thread, and I was inspired by the description of the "breeding pens" of Hell Pit waaaay back in White Dwarf 310. ""great cobbled halls strewn with blood-slick straw, shot through with cockroaches and fleas." Bases like that I had never seen, and they had a distinct "horrifying infested laboratory" sort of feel you'd expect to see in Hell Pit. I also went with a real "dingy" feel, I'm trying something new for their look.

Here are my attempts. The bases are from a custom mold I made, and milliput. If anyone's interested in the process, I'll type it out later.

One tiny rat on a skull inside a next. I painted the skull more greenish and rotting rather than bleached and clean. There you can see my best attempt thus far of the "straw" bedding.

Classic metal Giant Rat. A personal favorite.

My favorite yet. Mini dingy bell. Typhus Corrosion has been great on this project. The bandaged rat's head was removed and repositioned at a slight angle to add more suggestion of variety and slinking movement.

Another angle on the bell showing the nest inside.

A base before Typhus Corrosion, straw, and blood.

Next up. One rat eating another. Again inspired by artwork in the previous edition Skaven book.

And a naked Giant Rat in progress. This one will stand out nicely.

Most of these pictures appear finished. Threads like this aren't without precedent in the Showcase.

Great stuff! I love rats too!
