So I don't know if this has been making the rounds (kindly redirect me to the thread if it is) but I noticed Wayland Games have reduced their default discount percentage from 18-20% off most items to only 15% off most items now, but on the other hand seem to permanently offer free shipping on orders over £40 now (they only used to have temporary free shipping offers in the past years but had a deeper default product discount, so ordering back in the day at Wayland during their quarterly free shipping offerings was the cheapest way to shop - unless you lived in the UK in which case Darksphere was; while if you were prepared to wait 4 months for your stuff then total wargamer was (and still is) unbeatable.

I noticed this stealth price hike when I was going through some of my recent orders. In March, I had ordered some Space marine Centurion Devastators from their website for £38.50 instead of UK RRP £47.50 (19% off), while Wayland is selling the same Centurion Devastators for £40.39 now (15% off)

Codexes have also risen in price, from £25.50 for the AM codex I ordered just 2 weeks ago (£30.00 = UK GW RRP, so it's 15% off) to its current £26.39 (just 12% off). I am guessing this stealth price hike on their website is as recent as 1 week at most.

I didnt bother searching more examples but this seems to be the norm now.

So for all Wayland Games shoppers: CHECK HOW MUCH YOU ARE REALLY SAVING NOW before buying because if you are buying in bulk (£60+ worth of stuff) you might save a couple quid shopping somewhere else (like darksphere).

What do you think of this?

GW is scared of girls. Why do you think they have so much trouble sculpting attractive female models? Because girls have cooties and the staff at GW don't like looking at them for too long because it makes them feel funny in their naughty place.

It's not really a stealth price rise, just a discount reduction. As for the whole stealth thing its not really that stealthy, its quite clear on the website, its just a change. Most retailers don't advertise loudly that "HEY WE JUST REDUCED OUR DISCOUNT AMOUNT". The discount period just ends.

I'd count a price rise if they were producing their own product or rising the price above recommended retail.

I am glad that the postage discount is now fixed though - got annoyed with having to put in the code every time, plus considering they renewed the promo every month since Christmas its almost to be expected.

Wayland is now a known website, so it isn't relying on the publicity of a discount quite as much as it used to.

The real question is - how often do they honor their sales. I have a good friend who spent over £250 on models. 5 months later Wayland had still not delivered anything and were extremely unresponsive.

After those five months, Wayland cancelled the order without a word and refunded everything without even notifying my friend.

Bit crap really

You're better off buying from DarkSphere - I purchase from them regularly a) their discounts are better, b) their customer relations are great c) They reply quickly to messages d) if there is a mistake (rare) they deal with it and when you meet them in store they are top-notch people

Odd, I know Wayland take time with orders can be slower than most; but this is the first I've heard of them just cancelling an order without any communication. Normally I've had replies to my inquiries without too much time to wait.

Aye, they had most of the order, but were holding it back because a couple of pieces were being ordered in.

This lasted for an age (with my irate friend complaining to me about it every now and then). Then they just cancelled it.

Why this is, I personally haven't a clue and my friend is mystified. Personally I've not bought from Wayland. Other friends I have seem to have a mixed bag of success - three in the club think Wayland have been quick on the dispatch, two have had mixed reviews with orders taking a week or two too long and then there are two who would rather gouge their eyes out after a similar (but not as lengthy) problem as the first I mentioned.

In the past I had them once not able to source some paint, but they refunded me for that and posted the rest of the order that they did have out.

Is your friend sure that he didn't ask for a refund (in a moment of late night blind rage?). It's the only reason I can think that they dropped the whole order rather than at least post out what they had after a while.

'Fraid that's as much as I know - he only said they dropped it without comment

It was all refunded though - which is a relief so it's not all doom and gloom

I've had very good experiences with Wayland's customer support.
They are rather slow in their deliveries though.

For what it's worth I use Element Games, since I am near their shop, which carries a huge range. They are good but they only offer a 20% discount for 2 weeks after a GW release then it reverts to 15% thereafter. I am aware of how much GW discounts to independents so I guess it depends on what margin a retailer wants to make. Also they need to find a level where people don't think the discount is so slight (especially if there is postage) that they'll just go to their local GW instead. I hardly ever buy direct now Element have their store so close to me but I would do again if online sellers dropped much below 15%.
