no, don't get all weepy. he didn't die or anything. he was just a good buddy at the flgs i went to a lot in houston, who didn't play 40k, but loved to paint. i saw several people offer him cash to paint their armies, but he would refuse, though he'd do a unit or two for nothing, as long as you didn't mind not having it to play with for a month. he painted my warboss, big mek, and deff dread, and did spectacular jobs on all three.

Nice flames, mechs kff is boss well done, the sentinel conversion is not to my taste tho.

thanks. i like having units that don't look like the stuff in everyone else's army, and orks provide ample opportunity for that. there was a time when gw even encouraged players to build stuff that looked different. i'm a piss-poor painter, but i love modelling, especially bizarre kit-bashes and conversions. i built the dread about two weeks before the newer one was released, and it was a challenge figuring out how to cram the ork pilot into that tiny little cockpit. sorry you didn't care for it, but it does fit the theme of my army, in as much as there is one, and i remain proud of the work i did on it...
