Wondering Why the Emperor Left

Hi folks,

Been a long time since I painted any GW models, I used to play back when version 2 of the rules came out in 94' or something.
Anyways being an adult killed my hobbies as work and relationships took over.

But now I'm back and able to spend time doing the things I enjoy. =D

So I figure I'm way off relearning the rules or having a big enough force to field, so I've set myself a few painting challenges.
I have some Tartaros Terminators, which I'm gonna do in the Blood Angels livery.
I have attached some pics of a test I did on model, just to check I have my colours right before I commit to the final pieces.

I'm struggling on getting a smooth result so if you have any tips to fire my way or you see something that looks dodgy please help me out.
(This the first model I have painted since 97')

Many thanks =)

Looking good so far! to help smooth it more (although it's pretty good as is) you can highlight a little brighter with an orange or an orange brown mix and then wash the armour with Baal red or Carroburg Crimson to smooth and tie it together more.

Cheers dude, I tried to put 3 layers to the hightlights...But I was so nervous that I may have been too tight with the colours. In hindsight I think I could have highlighted more areas.

Also is it better to assemble fully before painting or not?

Looks great for a test. You did a nice amount on highlights on everything.

Thanks good to hear, feel like it needed an extra sharper detail line on the edges.
The ForgeWorld models I'll be working on have a ton of edges and detail...a daunting project.
