Dumb things happen.
Model tramples some infantry, but gets a hit from an infantry model that causes a slam on the way through. What do?
It says in the power attack section to resolve free strikes after the movement is complete, but this changes the direction of the slam. What do?

It's a strange interaction, but because free strikes from a trample happen at the end of the trample, you sort that out first, then the trampling model is slammed from wherever he ended his movement, even if that's now far away from the slamming attacker.
So yes, a crit slam model can slam a trampling model behind him, and the direction would still be directly away from the base.

Interesting. I had though so but wanted to make sure there wasn't some stipulation somewhere.
Thanks.

You are slammed from the position you end the trample in, working out direction from there is relation to the model doing the freestrike.
Its an abstraction to make tramples work. Otherwise you could have the trampling model hanging out on top of another model at the moment it is slammed.
Basically, avoid free strikes from hammer dwarves(or Mulg)

Getting critical knockdown with Satyxis Raiders after free striking a trampling warjack/beast is always fun. Sure they go to where they were going, but now they're knocked down and can't do anything more.
