HQ
Chapter Master
-Bike, Storm Shield, ThunderHammer: 195

Ironclad Dreadnought

Heavy
1 Thunderfire Cannon: 100

1 Thunderfire Cannon: 100

16 to 20 Units
11 to 13 Objective Secured Units
74 Models

Chapter Master goes with the bikes.
Plasma Cannon groups combat squad; the rest of the troops and assault marines split or stay together depending on the match up.
4 Rhinos scout forward with chapter tactics.

So 2 Plasma Cannons and 2 Thunderfury Cannons stay in the back to hold objectives and provide support; as well as taking advantage of scout moves after deploying.
The Rhinos use the chapter tactics to get right on top of the opponent early on; either using smoke or terrain+ first turn stealth to be annoying. Turn 2, all the marines are in shooting range.
The Dreadnought drops right into the enemy lines to support the Tac Squads.
The Bikes and Assault Marines move in close behind the Rhinos.
Outflanking is also an option for most units; depending on the match up.

Definitely going for an in-your-face play style here.

Think it could be competitive? Any advice on how to improve it?

Should also point out that I was making this as a successor chapter; hence, not using Shrike.

After taking some advice, I have made the following changes:

HQ
1 Chapter Master
-Power Fist, Jump Pack, Artificer, Stormshield

ELITE
7 Vangaurd Veterans
-Melta Bombs, Sergeant with Power Axe and Storm Shield

FAST
1 Stormtalon Gunship
-Skyhammer

1 Stormtalon Gunship
-Skyhammer

HEAVY
1 Thunderfire Cannon

1 Thunderfire Cannon

1 Whirlwind

TROOPS
10 Tactical Marines
-Melta, Multimelta, Sergeant with combi melta, rhino with dozer blade

10 Tactical Marines
-Melta, Multimelta, Sergeant with combi melta, rhino with dozer blade

10 Tactical Marines
-Melta, Multimelta, Sergeant with combi melta, rhino with dozer blade

10 Tactical Marines
-Grav gun, Plasma Cannon, Sergeant with combi grav, rhino with dozer blade

10 Tactical Marines
-Grav gun, Plasma Cannon, Sergeant with combi grav, rhino with dozer blade

16 to 21 units
10 to 15 objective secured units
68 models
-Grav gun, Plasma Cannon, Sergeant with combi grav, rhino with dozer blade

Looks like a fairly balanced force of anti horde/ignore cover firepower, anti tank firepower, and anti 2+ firepower.

I like the first list a bit better. Maybe a hybrid of the 2 would be best. Drop the Assault marines from list one and adding the 2 Storm Talons. This should leave enough points free to add the Whirlwind.

This will give you 3 fast moving scoring units for Maelstrom missions, one of which is Objective Secured.

Between the 2 TFC and whirlwind Horde and light transports are not an issue.

With the extra points left upgrade the Ironclad to have 2 missiles and go melta flamer. That turn one drop needs to take out the biggest baddest long range thumper in the backfeild. That load out gives you the best mix I think for atleast 2 turns of mayhem against both armor and troops.

The VG and AM just don't bring enough to either list.

Good points!

I agree on the Assault Marines and Vanguard coming out in favor of Storm Talons, Whirlwind and extra points left over. I'm still not sure what I want to do from there:

Chapter Master with Bike Group, Dreadnought and 4 Tactical Squads

or

Chapter Master with Sternguard Drop Pod and 5 Tactical Squads

The first choice seems balanced but the second choice gives me more objective secured units and a better chance of putting hurt on some of the Lord of War units my group likes to bring.

But then again, since I wouldn't be using the other half of my chapter tactics now, it might be best to just switch back to Ultramarines.

If you want a singel squad to hunt super-heavies, then LotD with melta is really good. 3++, ignores covers, Deep Striking, Relentless so can fire the multimelta on the move. The dreadnought is not going to be bad against SH vehicles but nothing in melees is going to like going against LoW.

Here's a slightly modified one. I think I'm on the right track now:

Chapter Master
-stormshield, hammer, bike

Dreadnaught
-multimelta, powerfist, heavy flamer, drop pod

Stormtalon
-skyhammer

Stormtalon
-skyhammer

Thunderfire Cannon

Thunderfire Cannon

Whirlwind

10 Tac Marines x 2
-grav, combi grav, plasma cannon, rhino with blade

10 Tac Marines x 2
-melta, combimelta, multimelta, rhino with a blade

5 Bikes
-attackbike with multimelta, 2 grav guns

5 Scouts
-camo, snipers, speeder with heavy flamer and cerberus

Fell from 68 models to 63, but diversified the threats and gave a better home (bikes) for the chapter master.
Lots of melta, lots of grav, lots of objective secured scoring, decent amount of anti-horde.
Not as many models as I would like on the field, but I still feel it's an acceptable number for marines.

Drop the camo and snipers from the speeder squad; snap firing from the speeder with rifles is ineffective. Bolters are best for this loadout, or hope it survives after deep striking and then assault out of it with close combat scouts.

If you're using Raven Guard CTs, why bother with the dreadnought? I'd just drop him for some more tac marines in rhinos. 5 strong infiltrated units is nice, and with multimeltas you should be ok for some anti-vehicle. I'd drop the dread and whirlwind for more tac marines. Also, give the CM artificer armor.

I preferred the first two lists being a stout RG player, I just love my jump infantry!

So without my codex to hand I'm going to try and give you another option

HQ
1 Chapter Master
-Power Fist, Jump Pack, Artificer, Stormshield

ELITE
7 Vangaurd Veterans
-Melta Bombs, Sergeant with Power Axe and Storm Shield

FAST
1 Stormtalon Gunship
-Skyhammer

10 Assault Marines
-2 Flamers, Melta Bombs

10 Assault Marines
-2 Flamers, Melta Bombs

HEAVY
1 Thunderfire Cannon

1 Thunderfire Cannon

1 Stalker/Hunter (your choice)

TROOPS
10 Tactical Marines
-Melta, Multimelta, Sergeant with combi melta, rhino with dozer blade

10 Tactical Marines
-Melta, Multimelta, Sergeant with combi melta, rhino with dozer blade

10 Tactical Marines
-Grav gun, Plasma Cannon, Sergeant with combi grav, rhino with dozer blade

10 Tactical Marines
-Grav gun, Plasma Cannon, Sergeant with combi grav, rhino with dozer blade

It should be close on points, afraid I don't have a codex on me here but shouldn't be an issue if you mess around with upgrades. It gives more assault marines to add to the threat of the vanguard, whilst only losing one tac squad and one stormtalon. But the loss of anti air is countered by swapping the whirlwind for and AA tank of your flavour.

The scouts weren't going to be in the speeder; I planned on putting them in terrain and letting them snipe away while the speeder runs off by itself; blinding things at range then flaming if it survives and gets in close.

The dread was just so I had something different than marines to drop in on the opponent and cause trouble, but a sternguard squad or tac group might end up being better for that.

Always equip your Chapter Master with the "shield eternal" 50 pts equals storm shield + eternal warrior = beast mode

Next to put him with another ballin' squad

Either go with Terminator Assault squad with TH/SS

or for a cheaper price if you don't mind not having Invul saves go Honour Guard.

NEXT put them in a damn LR or LR crusader pending on whether you use Terminators or Honour Guard

RUN 3 or 4 Tactical squads with 3 or 4 Rhinos
DON'T WASTE points on your heavy weapons, you gotta be Light n nimble on that @#$%. Stick to your Plasma Guns or Melta Guns and Combi-weapons on your sergeants. Keep that Tac Squads + Rhino at 190 POINTS. SAVE SAVE SAVE

I @#$%ing love Raven Guard Assault Squads (no scout move, no problem) the ability to use your Jump Packs TWICE!!! PLUS HAMMER OF WRATH reroll to wound!!!! OH MEHHH GAHHH!! 2 flamers is right
This is a most underrated ability!!

Thunderfire Cannons is good n @#$%, but think if they gel with your army. You have Rhinos and LR with 12 inch scout move and your assault marines can MOVE REALLY FAR REALLY FAST. Thunderfire Cannons really don't go with it.

That should be the core of your army. Now you can through in your unique baller squads and tinker with what works best.

Drop pod with Sternguard Veterans with Combi Meltas. F Yea, got to get rid of a VEHICLE statt, got to kill a squad of 2+ armor T4 guys with 1 or 2+ wounds, no @#$%ing problem. Sternguard Veteran Combi Meltas, gonna @#$% em up.

Not your style???

Maybe some Landspeeders with either duo Heavy Flamer or Duo Multi Melta??? Can you imagine 12 inch scout move with these puppies, then another 12 inch move on your turn??? Holy @#$% you are on their border already, you are there ready to burn and turn some squads or ready to melt away any vehicles with your Multi Meltas being with 12 inches of his @#$%. 80 points for a landspeeder to sacrifice to kill off any important vehichles is A O K A Y in mah book.

Raven Guard are THE BEST
