Was an epic game. I did make 2 vital but basic mistakes with the rules. I have an issue where for some reason the AP value of plasma has been burned in my head as 3 when its actually 2. Also I used barrage incorrectly (I remember when they could be placed anywhere) and used to to hit the rear armour of a wave serpent. Other than that I think we worked things out. Psychic phase was rather bland until I shrieked the Wraith Knight to death over 2 turns. From a tactics perspective I failed pretty bad, and it showed when only 4 men survived and 2 vehicles.

See here for full details. http://theimperialpatrol.blogspot.co.nz/2014/06/first-7th-edition-battle.html

Some cool pics

This was my first time fighting a wraith knight so after its devastating volley I was surprised at how easy it fell.

I also named all my men for this one. There are a lot of widows an orphans now. Details for that on the blog.

Hopefully its enjoyable.

Feed back would be great too. I dont know if I have too little detail or too much etc. So judge the battle report also if you want. I would love the advice.

I remember seeing this battle on your blog, very hard fought sir, and I take my hat off to you for a well fought battle (Even if you MAY have misinterpreted the rules somewhat)

Thanks Don, unfortunately I seem to remember from when I was learning the rules many editions ago that ordinance could be placed anywhere (didnt need to be on the center of a model) and then I found out I was wrong... But I spoke to him and he didnt mind, next time we will play it properly.

I am just grateful it turned into an intense battle despite the rules, and im sure he was just as glad as I for the how the battle turned out.

Thanks man, looking forward to seeing your army soon by the way, PM if you have any new information.

Good stuff. Proves that 40k is fun when not taken seriously, and with 2 great-looking armies duelling across the board, this is what GW mean by cinematic. Thanks for posting this.

Thank you. I personally enjoy reports like this, so im hoping to contribute to the less serious Battle Reports out there. Hopefully the quality (and following of the rules) improve as time goes on.

Thanks for reading.

I keep hearing a Michael Caine voice in my head when I look at those red coats and the rushed fortifications. I hope at some point during the battle someone remarked: "I only told yer to blow the bloody doors off".

To wound enemy units, see them driven from the table, and hear the lamentations of their player.

I plan on recreating the Battle of Rorke's drift against orks soon (using the 40k version from the 90s) so I'll definitely have some references in that report for ya!

Can't wait. Did you decide if you're going to get the whole terrain feature or just the Sandbags?

Well I have enough stone walls and huts to do it as it is, (you will probably see bits of it in the photos, we have a lot more though). It all depends on how long my friends ork army takes to paint up. If it takes a few weeks I wont bother buying the set, if it takes almost a month ill buy the set. I would prefer the set personally though.
