Wow!  I've been on the boards for the first time in a long time over the last week and it really is nice to see how much people appreciate the efforts that everyone has put in to making this a great place.

My favorite memories have a lot to do with the people I've met online and at the events held at the store and at the GT's and the Games Days I attended with Russ.  It really was a lot of fun.  I count myself in the lucky(?) minority of women that is completely comfortable in a room full of stinky, geeky, guys drinking too much caffeine as they roll dice and scream "Dakka!!  Dakka!! Dakka!!" as they move little metal figures around a table of styrofoam covered with green fuzz..

Best of luck to you Yak!

"When Penguin copy/pasted the contents of WD into the discussion forum and criticised it's mediocrity, enraging then editor Paul Sawyer and causing him to take his ball home. Ice Wind Dale 1, Dakka 0, Paul Sawyer -1."
Hah, well, uh, that's not exactly how it happened. I don't think I had read or even cared about the article (something about dark elves? Am i wrong here?) but I took offense, rather, to his rude statements leveled at another poster. He took offense to me taking offense, which I then took offense to too, causing him to take further offense and take his ball and go home.

I was young and jumpy then. Now I'm (less) young and whiney, so whoopty doo

My best memories:
-Meeting some of the dakka crew at after hours gaming at GD Baltimore (2002-2004). None of them probly remember me though, i was a twerp.
-Pan Fo
-Christmas Kironor
-Seeing mauleed be a dick and thinking "Man, I wish I could be like that, I'd totally get laid."
-Taking over the 40k CCG forum.

"Dude! Wouldnt it be, like, cool if you could move, like, your dude-braj's models to royally piss them off? Yaaaaah, dude! Tooootally crucial!"

Back in the early 2000's when Ryan The Nines used to post. He only made a couple of hundred posts but they were always top notch verging on the sublime and dakka was a much smaller place.

Malfred accounting for 1 in every 2 posts on dakka.

I

Back when I had holidays to do blogs

When the OT brigade took over the 40kCCG forum as our very own OT forum and wen from 40 posts to several thousands (and the second highest post traffic) in 6 months before being rumbbled by Nicole.

Back when dakka was grey and gold. Soothing on the eyes, relaxing to read.

Finally seeing off my arch nemesis. Mwahahahaaaa

Also sending Russ a copy of the Tyranid 3rd ed codex I had secured from a studio worker 6 months before its release.
And getting a 'Got Dakka?' cap and some buttons in return. Still got the hat.

Posting the results of the Eye of Terror campaign a day and a half before GW released them. (Until about 1 year ago I could weedle pretty much any info I needed out of GW)

Meeting Clouseau at an OzGD. Back in the day when none of us could greenstuff to save our lives or paint to todays standards he was a shining light that really set the bar for alot of gamers.

Meeting a heap of dakkaites at the UK Games day 2000. We stood around talking about real life for about an hour. I was constantly amazed that most of them were over 30 (I was 22 at the time).

The invasion of other GW boards with secret accounts and hijacking regular, respected members accounts by using their login names but with an underscore instead of a space or a space after a the name. Then spaming them to death with 'Are marine's gay?' questions.

The Divine Light series and being the person to name the daemons from the first 2- Cecil and Norton.

Also a vivid memory was September 11. I was at work on night duty at a remote hospital in western Queensland with no patients and saw the reports come in minutes after the first plane hit. I pulled all the TVs out and was watching CNN, NBC, SKY, and BBC all at once on Sattelite TV and relaying the info to the guys in the US who seemed to be having a news outage. Also remember someone in Halifax Canada posting how planes were landing every few seconds after being banned from US airspace.

Posting for 30 hours straight (on an invasion)

Being able to relate to people all over the world because we all play with little hunks of plastic and metal.

And finally about 5 years ago for april fools I did up a memo from GW headquarters stating that sportsmanship was going to be included in Golden Daemon (as a parody to sports points in tourneys) including extra points for not painting 10% of the model and having to smile whilst painting the model.

Within 24hours all the GW forums were carrying it and there was much wailing and gnashing teeth (i'm sure some of the 'professional' painters had a cry until it was revealed as a hoax.
