Yep, Sgt still gets a crimson left hand. Both hands if he's a Vet Sgt.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

Nice work de-wolfing the stormfang. Doesn't look half bad as a regular marine flyer.

The siege dread and the two assault squads are well done too. Plenty of flame action getting on.

As for the scouts, I'd give the sergeants a red hand.

I did some more googling on the subject and found this in Rynn´s World:

Years of service would prove a Scout’s readiness, and then the call would come. He would be ordered to return to Arx Tyrannus to attend the Steeping. It was an ancient rite dating back to the time when the primarch had walked among them. Dorn had once welcomed battle-brothers into his ranks by cutting his palm and sharing his blood directly with them. Now his blood was a holy relic, sharing only its presence. Time had wrought its changes on the Chapter’s rites. Nowadays, a Scout being elevated to full battle-brother status would dip his left hand in the blood of a foe he had slain himself. The ritual had changed, but the meaning and significance of it had not. The fist literally became crimson. It was the final step in becoming a full battle-brother, the final step before being assigned to one of the other nine companies.

Since a sarge has full marine stats i figure he would be graduated and get a crimson left fist.

Im hoping to get some burnination done
Ill combat squad the assaulters putting the two flamers and the sarge in one, have the MoTF join either depending on what im facing.
Have these guys in the Stormtalon counts as raven.
The MoTF has a flamer on his servo harness plus combi flamer so thats two more templates.
They jump out, flame and then charge the same or two different units depending on what im facing.
The MoTF has a servo arm that should be able to handle vehicles nicely as well as enemies without AP2 or overwhelming amounts of attacks.
The Sarge has a melta bomb for cans and power sword for initiative attacks since hes only got 3+.
All the marines have kraks so they can help with vehicles and MCs.

Getting off work an hour early yesterday didnt work out, i stayed over half an hour instead

Today i also got home quite late but i did some gluing at least:
The Razorback las turret for the Stormwolf is ready for priming and i started putting together the Stormtalon.

Ive got the cockpit put together except for the bottom plate as well as the upper hull.
Gonna look at making it a bit sleeker, ive seen some conversions that have changed the large pods that hold the bolters/las/skyhammer/typhoon as well as mounting the assault cannons higher into the hull.

So this is what happened to the Stormtalon:

I magnetized the gun pods to the chassi and the las/bolter guns and mags/capacitors to the pods, ordered another pair of inside pod parts so im gonna pair those with the flat missle pod outside i have left over, magnetize the two different missile types and the pod to the chassi, all alternatives.

This way i dont get a seam in the top o the pods as one would get if one was to magnetize all options from one kit.

The modifications to the tail and turret makes look it look quite a bit sleeker IMO, sure the AC-turret doesnt go 360 degrees on this model but rule of cool..

Might go at the rhino chassi tomorrow, i think having it, the stormtalon and the stormspeeder done will save time in regards to
cleaning and colour changes on the airbrush.

Scouts and the Storm Talon are coming along nicely. You're right about it looking sleeker.

I love the wire stand you made up for the land speeder. Very ingenious.

That's a nice tone and shading. And the Storm Talon does look better with the modifications you've done. That lighter turret makes it look a lot less clumsy, and that original downward tail was aerodynamically useless anyway.

Thanks! The wire stand is reused from the Doc Ock pack, i didnt want to hold it while i was airbrushing,

Did some more today.

Sprayed on a highlight for all armour, both personal and vehicles.
Then i went over the large to be black-and-metal areas with black using a big brush.
Need to go back with a smaller brush for the fiddly areas where i didnt want to risk cleanup.
Also need to do the same on the scouts.

Looking at another week of long days at work, i hope i can muster the energy to paint some during the evenings.

Slow goings on for hobby progress here but ill give a quick update:

Ive got black and started with the metals on the current batch of stuff being painted.

Since i havnt been in the mood for painting ive done a bit of modeling:

Since this pic was taken ive finished the rest of the Space Hulk Terminators, ive been taking off BA specific details and putting on Crimson Fists iconography and helmets.
A Space Hulk is the last place one would like to be without a helmet since there might be vacuum behind the next door, not to mention genestealers with rending claws.

It did hurt a bit to shave down BA stuff on these minis since part of me wanted to keep my Space Hulk set stock but i figure that since i wont be going back to my Blood Angels, at least paint wise, i would rather have minis that fit into the army ill be fielding.

I also put together the limited edition Captain, switched out his back because i dont like cloaks and put a helmet on him, if this guy gets fielded its most likely gonna be as Pedro Kantor because the model looks awesome and has mostly the right gear (hey, thats just a ceremonial sword, not for use in combat! or he actually wields the sword left handed with the slowness and power inherent to that power fist ).

I havnt glued him to a base yet since im considering getting a 32mm for him, the overhang on a 25mm base is almost comical IMO.

Hopefully i will be getting some more painting done over the winter holiday.

There has been some progress during this festive season.

Finished up my scouts:

And their Land Speeder Storm:

Plus the Stormtalon:

I also finished up the rhino and the Twin-Las turret.

The bits for turning the rhino into a Stalker and the other weapons for the Talon need paint chips, weathering and matt varnish and then they are done.

Ive also put together and some stuff i need and might need.

Libby without psychic hood counts as Rune Priest for when im having the Assault Squad counts as Blood Claws and the Stormwolf allied in as Space Wolves / reinforcements from the 8th Reserve Assault Company.
Hes got a magnetized left hand.

An Ordinary Libby with switchable right hand and back pack.

Helmets on and no cloth on both, protection, style and simplicity.

Their Librarius icons are instamolded off the DV Libbys backpack and cast in resin.

And the Scout Sarge from the Land Speeder Storm kit, hes got a switchable right hand and a melta bomb for when i feel the scouts need some extra punch.

I need to finish the "Rune Priest" to be able to field 1500pts fully painted with the Reinforcements from the 8th Reserve Assault Company / allied Space Wolves.

Have a good new year!

Thanks!

Today i painted my "Lexicanium" counts as Rune Priest, a Thunderfire Cannon and ten shoulder pads for my "Blood Claws".

"Lexicanum" / Rune Priest

Thunderfire cannon

Shoulder pads on my "Assault Squad" / Blood Claws

That means ive got the 1500pts i initially want to try done

The list goes as follows:
Combined Arms Detachment: Space Marines - Crimson Fists
-HQ-
Chaplain with Combi Flamer.

-Troops-
Scouts Squad of 5 with combat blades, Sgt has Melta Bombs.
Land speeder Storm with Heavy Flamer.

Tactical Squad of 10 with Plasma, Sgt has Combi Plasma.
Rhino.

Tactical Squad of 5 with Melta, Sgt has Combi Melta.
Rhino.

-Fast Attack-
Stormtalon Gunship with Skyhammer Missile Launcher.

-Heavy Support-
Devastator Squad of 5 with 3x Laser Cannons.

Thunderfire Cannon.

Allied Detachment: "Reinforcements from the 8th Reserve Assault Company" - Space Wolves
Marked with Grey trim on their left shoulder pad.
-HQ-
"Lexicanum" with force maul - Rune Priest.

-Troops_
"Assault Squad in Cestus Assault Flyer" - Blood Claw squad of 9 + Pack Leader, squad has 1x Flamer, 1x Power Sword and Pack Leader has Combi Flamer.
Stormwolf with Twin-Linked Multi-Meltas.

-Elites-
Dreadnought with Twin Linked Heavy Flamer and Power Fist with Heavy Flamer
Drop Pod with Deathwind Missile Launcher.

Going forward im gonna do a couple of drop pods for some flexibility in play style.
The dread ive got laying about since the middle of the 00's.
The dread i accidentally bought recently.
Possibly the Land Raider ive had since they were new back in the early 00's.
Maybe the Space Hulk Termies.

And ive got a bunch left of the 50 2nd hand tac marines i bought to get this project started, some of them ought to become Sternguard if i find they are in good enough condition and i can get the standard boltes out of their hands.
If that doesnt work out or If i decide im giving them all Mk8 armour which ive been thinking about, i might try to hunt down some of the previous tactical marine kits for converting since i dont like tabards and robes and all the clutter the sternguard kit has.

Peace out!

Hey all!

Just had my first game with this army (and marines since 3rd ed) this past weekend, win for the Sons of Dorn!

I was facing Necrons with :
Overlord, Destroyer Lord, Royal Court with Lord, Veiltek and Haywiretek.
5 deathmarks that were joined by the veiltek.
6 wraiths joined by the D-Lord.
10 immortals joined by the lord and haywiretek in a bagel.
9 warriors joined by the overlord in a bagel.
9 warriors in a ghost ark.
6 or so scarab bases.
2 anni barges

I had:
Chaplain with combi flamer
Scouts in the Storm
10 Tac Plasma combiplasma in rhino
10 Tac Pelta combimelta in rhino
Stormtalon with skyhammers
5 Devs with 3 LCs
Thunderfire cannon

Rune Priest
10 Blood Claws with flamer, power fist and leader with combiflamer
Stormwolf with multimelta
Siege dread
Drop pod.
Longfang squad of 3 with two missile launchers.

Basically my marines kicked ass, at the end of turn 4 he had the destroyer lord with three wraiths, an overlord with three warriors, four immortals, a damaged anni barge, a scarab base, five deathmarks with a despairtek left so he conceded.

In his place i wouldnt have conceded because i just only up 1 point on objectives, he might have been able to pull it off with some clever play.

But i wont cry about an initial win with a "new" army

And a hobby update:

Yesterday i made some tree bases to fit my grassland fat mat.

I was lazy when i ordered some laser cut mdf ruins and added some randomly shaped bases to the order since not having to cut bases seemed nice.
Onto these i hot glued some steel wire normally used for binding rebar together, i twisted it into eights and made the left overs stick straight up.
Some of these i bulked up aluminium foil and then covered it with masking tape and the others i cut down close to the base.
To these bases i added white glue and then sand, let dry for a while.
And then airbrush with a dark brown.
Then a drybrush with light brown.
More white glue and static grass.
Hot glued on some fake plants and covered up any ugly "seams" by hot gluing on some moss.

And heres the results with my scouts for scale:

Im really happy with how they turned out

And today i made some wrecked markers for vehicles.
LED tea lights, hot glue, pillow stuffing and some black primer-

Here are some of my Tacs after getting rhino shot to gak:

IMO they also turned out great, i made 7 of them to have enough for most games.

Coming up? I dont know, ive started airbrushing some more marines with weapon options for the tacs, the dv librarian and the other librarian i made along with dreadnought rifleman arms.

After that i think im gonna try to detail the laser cut ruins i got, they have really good profiles and multiple storeys but they are open so i figure im gonna block the windows on the lowest level to get some LOS blocking to be able to hide some things behind, also im gonna organize some mostly triangular bases so they can be put alongside each to represent two sides of the same building.

Mainly i will be covering up the slots where the ruins go together and then i want to texture them somehow so they will take a drybrush nicely with a concrete effect.

And i want to make some sternguard, not from the kit since they are so full of details and tabards i dont really like, cleaner power armour is the way!

See you around!

The day before yesterday i started work on some laser cut MDF ruins, yesterday evening after work i finished painting and basing them

Cutting out bases for the ruins.

Putting cereal box trim over the slots for the levels and where the walls go together as well as adding some detailing.
I also blocked all the windows and doors at ground level to allow units to hide.

Thickly painting the walls with a mix of wall filler, white glue, sand and water and after covering it all the going back and stippling away all the visible brush strokes for a nice texture.

Put some sand on the bases and painted the ruins black, couldnt use my airbrush since the liquitex acrylic paint i got didnt thin well :(

Airbrushing burnt umber paint all over the ground and some splotches on the walls, different brand of paint that did thin alright.

Drubrushing the ground yellow ochre, put some on the splotches on the walls as well.
Then drybrushing grey on the walls.
After that i glued some static grass on the bases to finish them off.

Heres how it turned out :

Im really happy with how these turned out, the fact that they block LOS is a welcome addition to the games played here since we have had very few bits of terrain that did so earlier.

Next i thinking of trying my hand at high density foam hills or rock outcroppings for some more LOS blockers, i scavanged some foam from the trash at work a while back for this reason.

Peace!

I put together and primed an eight man sternguard unit:

They all have MkVIII plate and Legion Seeker Bolters to make them stick out from the regluar marines, im pretty much gonna paint them the same as my tacs except with the crimson right hand of veterans.

I also put together two dread, one from back when the plastic dread was first released in 00 or 01, i converted the missile launcher arm into a TlLc with sponson lasers from the previous mark predator tank so i can run it as a mortis if i want.
The other is a furioso out of the deathstorm box, i took some BA iconography off it and added a Fist symbol on the sarcophagus.
They have been primed and have blue on the now.

Pics for those two will come at a later date.

That's great looking terrain, Wurr. Really should get around to painting my own cardboard buildings.

The Stern guard are off to an excellent start too. The seeker bolters and Mk8 chests are a great way to distinguish them from the regular marines.

Heres an update from the last couple of days.

The Sternguard have gotten their metals:

I started work on two drop pods:

And ran out of blue:

So i continued with the bits that made one complete pod, here it is drying after i applied the oil wash:

Its playable, the doors and weapons are magnetized and the top with the engines/fins can be take off the base/door flower, i made latches so it holds together perfectly, sharnesses can be put in if i happen to paint those up:

Got my stand in for Sgt Garadon to table top, He's the "2nd ed Blood Angel Captain" with some slight conversions.
His right hand and backpack are magnetized so i can use him with a combi weapon or a jump pack as something else or a Storm Bolter and a backpack with an iron halo as Pedro Kantor

I also got the eight man Sternguard unit done.
Not really sure how i planned to deploy these when i started them, im sure it will come back to me.

In addition i also got blue on the last of the drop pod bits, ready for highlighs, metals, chipping, gloss, oil wash, dull, assembly and done

Cool army man! I like the bases and the number of conversions. I loved your rhinos and the big icons on them. You could consider spicing up your other vehicles in a similar fashion. The drop pods now have those small crimson fist tokens, but a big icon would look much cooler. Perhaps paint the top part of the fins red?

You are quite good at painting and converting, but in such a uniform looking army it all gets a bit lost. I would love to see some details which clearly show this is a crimson fist force.

Thanks a lot guys!

I also greatly enjoyed Rynn's World, i hadnt actually read it when i started up this army, just the look and feel of being a definite underdog chapter with lots of bolter love was enough

The powerful versatility of Sternguard is the reason i build this unit, they can statistically deal with anything that isnt a lot of wounds with 2+ save or vehicles.
Im thinking i will be fielding them with a librarian and possibly another character in a drop pod when they get fielded initially.
Later on when i have two or three Sternguard units i will also be adding in Pedro.

Thanks, im very happy with how the big icons have turned out.

I also feel that some more red on vehicles would be a right choice but im currently at a loss for how to do it, ive been looking around the net for ideas but for now i feel that getting more stuff done is a higher priority.

Thank you, the uniformity is actually something i have tried to cultivate in this force, my previous army since around '00 was orks and in it i also did quite a bit of conversions but there to promote variety.

Being a highly Codex Compliant chapter means they keeping things strict and even though many of the battle brothers may have centuries of active service behind them my choice is to show them keeping personal decorations of the armour to a minimum, if i could get legs without purity seals cheaply i would have considered using them just because i dislike painting purity seals

I might start adding things to the units after battles at some point when they have performed extraordinarily though.

My scout unit should be elevated to full battle brothers since they killed a necron barge lord in combat in the last game i played
